I could sense that a guy friend is jealous of someone I know, but he just won't admit it. He just keeps beating about the bush instead of being direct about his jealousy. Why can't he be more direct with me? I keep telling him to get straight to the point, but... ... Please share with me your opinions on this. Thanks a lot.
p.s. Would you directly tell others that you're jealous of someone?

Maybe it's because he is ashamed of his jealous feelings. Let's face it, jealousy is the cause of more trouble among friends and lovers (you don't specify which) than almost any other factor. Money and jealousy are the two big destroyers of relationships.

No, I would not admit it if I was jealous; I would attempt to conquer it. I would want to make a special point to be friendly and even generous to the person I felt jealous toward, hoping to overcome any tendency to think I could own someone else's affection as private property.

You can't, you know. No matter who it is -- family, friends, lovers, spouses -- you cannot own their affection. They give freely what is for you, and freely what is for others. People can indeed love more than one person, whether in ways very different or ways strikingly similar.

It is not good to try to thwart the Goddess of Love. She will have Her way.

Jealousy is not a nice thing and it is hard to admit to it. Who is the one bringing up the subject?
Would I tell others that I am jealous of someone? Yes but that person(s) would have to be somebody I can trust.

What, you want the guy to walk right up to you, point a finger into your face and say "I am jealous"?

Nope, sorry, doesn't work that way. At least, not with the vast majority of people. They tell others about "jealousy" in a round-about way. It's all about passive-aggression. People are very passive-aggressive when they don't want to say what they really feel but still can't help but be influenced by it.

The important part is your response to this situation. How are you going to help him be open and honest? Is there something in your usual response that keeps him from expressing his real opinions and emotions? Also, if you already have a hunch of what he is actually feeling, maybe you should start a conversation on the subject.

This is the wrong category for the question, but I'll venture an answer anyway. People don't like to admit feelings that they feel will make others feel badly about them.

Why can't he stop beating about the Bush?

Maybe he is from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, or maybe North Korea....

I'm not afraid to admit that I'm very jealous! He didn't want to tell you because he didn't want you to be upset with him. He didn't want you running your mouth...

That would take swallowing your pride, and admitting fault. Very difficult to do.
