if the scars are raised I really don't think that a tattoo will cover it. in fact it might make them stand out more because everyone will want to look at your tattoo. maybe try going to the dermatologist. I would (i have 2 tattoos i am not anti tattoo or anything) i would ask your derm to do laser treatments for removing the scars. then get a tattoo somewhere else when you are scar free so you can get a fresh start! I bet it would feel good to have those scars gone and the laser treatments don't really hurt and will remove the scarring without emotional pain. best wishes

I am actually looking to get one drawn up for me. I want it to signify strength through pain. I believe in some respects they can exist in conjunction. One cannot live live without the other. I want to get something with an angel. I have an idea, when I get it drawn up Ill come back and share.
Good luck with everything!

How about the tarot card image for "strength"? It's a woman holding open the jaws of a lion. The image is immediately recognizeable to a lot of people, but the cards have been done in so many different styles, you'd have your choice.

A beautiful sun shining, with a sparkling tear drop,(not plain black, but nearly real looking) escaping from welled tears at the bottom of the strong, gorgeous sun.
ps. I am sorry for your pain, and happy for your strength. Live life, don't let pain or handicaps pull you back from a full, exciting, life. Take chances.
God Bless

The Japanese Character of Courage.
it should read Yuuki
However, do you want to brand yourself for life? I've had tongue surgery, gum surgery, a broken spine, and an aneurysm. I won't go for a tatoo. Its permanent unless you want laser surgery later to take it off. Why not get a good chain to wear around your neck ? or a bracelet?
think well, why inflict pain from yourself. haven't you had enough?

what means something to you? do you have anything specific in mind? there are so many things that you could do. it all really just depends on your personality. any great custom tattoo artist could help you out in designing the perfect tattoo for you. since i don't know what you personally have been thru it would be hard for me to make accurate suggestions. check out my tattoo artists page and you can atleast see the various unique tattoos that are out there so you can see just how awesome it could be.

A tattoo should come straight from you and no one else thats wat makes them unique I have 5 and they were all drawn by me but if your stuck on wat you should do I would say depending on the body location somekind of Samuri which symbolizes strength and in a way pain.A samuri uses turns his weaknesses to strengths when he goes to battle and as for pain well a samuri we'll probably die anyway so theres the pain.

how about an angel divided in two with one half happy and ready to fly and the other half bounded by chains.I think this would demonstrate those two attributes quite well, showing how one can break free from what holds us back, that we all have the strength to do it
