Certainly not !

Every language has a whole culture backing it up, and the cultural impoverishment involved in forgetting every language but one would be too grave to even consider. Also, artificial simplification of a language would just result in some newspeak worthy of Orwell.

Your proposal is not acceptable and I will resist it with armed force if I must.

English is spoken in almost all the countries in the world. But only in a perfect world , could we just have one language for all.
Nice thought but not realistic, at least not yet, anyway.

Why don't you learn Esperanto. It's an international language that has been around for almost 100 years. Trouble is that lot of people don't speak it.

Here is a link to the language that was supposed to unite us all:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto
I had a heck of a time remembering the name of this language.
It's been a big flop.

If English is used only as communication tool, I will agree and fully support your effort. One of factor causes the world today in the chaos because of miscommunication due to different languages. There are many countries have to use single language to unite their country. Example, India, the seventh-largest country by geographical area uses English to unite 28 states and 7 union territories. According to many historians, India will not stand a chance to last for 5 years if they do not use English as co-national language.

I studied history during my pre-university course and language is one of major subject in my study. Every civilization has different major language, example Mesopotamia used Semitic language and Sanskrit language is used by Ancient India. Language was one of important factor of a civilization.

The fact is language is not only a communication tool. Language is part of a race's culture and it integrates with value, norm, institution, and artifact of a society. Each different language represents each different culture. This is one of reason that there are many countries are keen to use their own national language in domestic and international communication.

I am Malaysian Chinese. I learned many languages through my years of international involvement. Every language has its own unique because of the culture and environment where the people use it. In Chinese society, seniority in family is emphasized, so there are 2 single terms for younger and elder sister in Chinese language. Where as English use sister for either younger or elder and it is consider rude in Chinese society. I have Portuguese friend told me that there are some words and sentences that can not be translated to English or any other languages with similar meaning. English can not represent Spanish most of time because Spanish use gender for verbs and things. Left is left in English but in Spanish left can be in female or male.

Asking every country to use English as their major language is more or less similar to asking every country to bow to English culture. On the other hand, simplify the English language to make it as international language so that it does not represent English only will be considered as raping English language. Both of situations will not be accepted by English speaker and non-speaker.

Speaking a language without taking the language culture is impossible. Language is a form of way to communicate the idea from the mind of human. People can not speak what is not in their mind.

Using single language as international language can be considered as communism theory. In the democratic world, single language is not able to success. Languages integration is more successful and impactful in long run in democratic world. Every language can use borrowing words from other languages to suit own language which is the most common practise in every language now. Every language will able to grow nearer to each other in future by doing that. People will able to learn different languages easily and understand each others when every language has some similarity.

I think that it's a valiant idea, but I doubt that it would work.
