In the 90's when banks begin to go global, they answer machines should manage 2 languages, so they created the press 1 for spanish. . .

I think that it started in the 90's, due to the large amount of non-english speaking spanish residents. I know its very helpful to them but at the same time, just makes it harder for them to learn the language. If they can do everything in their own language why bother learning another? Just my opinion, not meant to be offensive at all.
