Yes. It's called Esperanto. There are a number of other invented global languages to choose from, as well. Esperanto has the most speakers within the intentionally created language category, but the language didn't catch on globally. There are still more Esperanto speakers than you'd think, though.

Not without such a amount of regulation that it wouldn't be worth the effort even if it was possible; if everyone did manage to get saddled with the same language if left alone dialects would run away to make things unintelligible again anyway. Some forms of English even are difficult for us to understand, especially in other countries outside of America/England. And no, sign language at least also vary from country to country.

And who'd want that really? That'd be boring.

Actually we DID have just language for the whole world a looong time ago. Adam and Eve spoke one language but their children milleniums down the line made a million languages.

That's just it - the PEOPLE make the languages, and keep distorting it and it just keeps on multiplying. So 'inventing' one language for the whole world is as possible as putting ALL the people of the WORLD into a tent, where they can all interact on a daily basis. If you did that, in a couple of centuries (a few generations) we'd have our lovely universal language.

About languages, tribes etc..

"O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with God is that (believer) who have more piety." [Qur'an 49:13]

"And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Verily, in that are indeed signs for men of sound knowledge." [Qur'an 30:22]

My guess is no.

All attempts at creating a universal language for the whole world, like esperanto or volapük, have been miserable failures.

The closest to a universal language now is English, but it does not seem to be in any position to become a universal primary language, only secondary, and we do not know how long it will stay in that position.

NO! Many years ago all mankind was speaking the same language and they all decided to build a tower called Babel to heaven. So God came down from heaven to observe what they were doing and because they all spoke the same language it was easy for this to put their minds together to do anything, therefore God fixed it so all nationalities would speak different languages. Therefore the answer is NO. Never again. Read it in your bible Genesis 11:1-9 verse.

I believe we already tried that with Esperanto, which was supposed to be an international language and failed miserably. It simply won't happen- it'd be too difficult to implement.
