Thanks for that fascinating bunch of mush, kveldulf, with no reference at all.
Yes, suicide can be hereditary because the factors of heredity and environment may be very similar to their offspring.

Some disorders which lead to suicidal tendencies are partially hereditory e.g. schizophrenia and bipolar disorder have all got high suicide rates and have been demonstrated to be at least partially genetic (via twin studies).
It is likely, although I am not aware of studies that show it, that suicidality is also hereditary to some degree because the components that make it up especially impulsivity have shown a genetic component (although broad traits like this are very biologically complex).

Honey, you know what we all feel this way now and again, but you need to see a doctor and talk to him, he may decide to put you on some medication, you are not alone or abnormal, you have a chemical in-balance in the brain, which is so common, and you need some counselling to help with different thinking patterns and strategies to cope when you are down. I never use to believe in all of this stuff until 5 years ago, I had a break down and got panic + anxiety attacks, and I am on meds + counselling and they help me so much. This is happening more and more, you are not alone, so please don't think you are, and if you ever want to chat just email me through here, and don't be ashamed by the way you are feeling, you have a huge heart and are a beautiful caring person with so much to offer and obviously you are a deep thinker. Please see a councellor asap. Since this is happening we do tend to lose all interest in things that we use to enjoy, and we lose weight / gain plus it is affecting our sleep and our everyday activities. This is so normal. Take care, good luck and keep your chin up. Min :-)

There are psychologists who have sucidal thoughts too. But they may have greater access to options not to carry out the suicidal thoughts.
NO, suicidal tendencies are not hereditary. If you don't seek help for your underlying issues, you will TEND toward or gravitate towards unhealthy ways of settling your problems.

I've heard that people who have had family members who have "succeeded" in committing suicide have a much more likely chance of trying it, because they think that since people in their family have done it, why can't they?
It's just a guess; but I've talked to some people I know that have a background of relatives dying from suicide, & who knows maybe chemical imbalances in the brain are also hireditary...

Specifically no. However, the chemical imbalances that contribute to the depression that usually accompanies suicidal tendencies are.

No, not in my opinion, I don't think depression is hereditary either... I think it is all to do with your surroundings, you grow up around someone who attempts suicide, you begin to feel that's normal and so you may do it when older...

When a parent commits suicide, at least one of their kids will think of this as an answer to their problems and will think about doing the same. This is the only thing that keeps me alive, I do not want my son to think that suicide is acceptable. Seek help, reach out. PLEASE DO NOT do this to yourself or your family. A person that commits suicide is a very selfish person, only thinking of themselves. REACH OUT TO FRIENDS, FAMILY, MEDICAL PERSON EL.

The math will tell you that it would disappear. No it cant be. What is there are human patterns over and over the same, the same errors, the same tricks and the same suicides.
