Tone on tone color is just a gimmick name. Color has tone and base. The tone could be brown with a red-orange base or blond with a green or purple base. Permanent color, even black, bleaches while it deposits color. Your ends have been bleached and will not hold color and will fade. Use non peroxide semi permanent color. Try henna. Coloring hair is cool because it gives body and shine and stops it from getting flat from oily hair or thin hair. Over coloring or slapping full strength permanent color on the ends without reading the directions will dry out your hair. Quality color makes a difference. Grocery stores do not sell quality color.
