Money. Just hand over a cute card with a little check inside.

Money is a nice suggestion, the only problem there is that a fifty pound gift looks expensive, but a fifty pound note in a card looks cheap!

Why not arrange a video or photos of the engagement party for them, and have it put on DVD. This way, you give them a gift they will always have, and one that is unique.

Or you could take them out to dinner as your "present" to them. Have a good night out with them, all expenses picked up by you of course. You can even arrange with the restaurant to have flowers and a card placed on the table for them, and even to have "special" music played on the night. Other than that, the usual gift vouchers or gifts. But do something different from other people! Your gift will ALWAYS be remembered.

Well a gift card then they can get what you dont know they need. Umm, other than that just a note saying what you think (if positive) of the parties being engaged and wishing them luck. Don't give them money in some cultures that is considered an insult.

Easy. Make them an iMemoryBook.

I was trying to decide what to give my roommate for his wedding present. After seeing this system called iMemoryBook I came up with a great idea. I convinced Derek and Wendy to write "He said...She said" stories about the way they met and the way they got engaged. Then using iMemoryBook's invitation system I sent invitations to all of his family and friends, in Utah, and all of her family and friends, in California. Then I watched the book grow online. I was amazed at how smoothly this book grew with the iMemoryBook system. Over 70 people got online, viewed and contributed to the book. The final book had over 200 photos, 75 entries(memories), and 100+ pages, iMemoryBook helped me create something I wouldn't have even imagined possible.

Donate to a favorite charity of theirs -- that could be a good way to celebrate the engagement of this couple. OR ... ask them what they need (if anything at all). sometimes, it is the little things that are missing or used to the point where they need to be replaced.

I think taking them out to dinner or on a fun activity would be a great way to show them that they're worth more than just money, they are worth your time and attention, too.
