i want to go and get married to my fiance, and we'd rather just go to the JP and have a simple civil ceremony. i need to know what i need to do so, if anything. i mean, do i just got there... wherever there is and pay em and have em do it? or what? do they provide the marriage license or do i have to do that somewhere else? im not sure, and a little confused and dont have anyone to ask.

Call you local courthouse clerk of courts. They will direct you to the correct department. Then, they will usually have you bring proper ID, may have you take a blood test, etc. Then, you find out when they are open, (you may be able to choose a judge), and you skedule a date, and time. You can still invite people, use a video camera, dress up, or whatever you wish.

It really depends on the state. Some states require blood test and maybe marriage counseling. You may also have a waiting period. Some states allow you just to come in, fill out some forms, show some ID, and then meet the officiant for your 30 sec "wedding." In that case, you've done in 12 minutes what some people take 12 months to do.

Before going to the jp, you need to have a blood test, and you need to obtain a lic. for starters. At the very least don't just show up, call and find out the procedure for the state in which you live.

check with your local town hall. they will let you know what you need. where i live we had to fill out a form, no blood test, pay a fee. our minister then had to sign the form when we got married and that he did the ceremony. he mailed to form to town hall. a couple weeks later we got our official marriage certificate. i then went around and got my last name changed.

Take a trip to your local county courthouse...they will have all of those details for you as each state has different regulations, etc.
