Even now, I believe no parent can think politics as a career and bread earning way of life. Just as very few parents can think of encouraging their son to be an author/poet (as profession!). The politics is basically a mechanism/channel to serve. Unfortunately some of the politicians have turned the same into a source of livelifhood as well as for accumulating wealth for heirs.
Still, there are quite many dedicated persons individually very dedicated to their cause and for them the politics is not a profession but an effective tool for social work. Unfortunately these persons are divided along party lines.

Your are correct.Youth pressence is a must in politics now. But what to do? Politics is such a bad place that any good person will turn out as a bad human being after entering in it.

i am sure this is wrt to india, i agree youth presence is reqd, in fact our major band of politicians is a selfish older batch, but parents discourage their kids cos its so dirty in politics and one young person will be all alone out there with the big bad wolves and every parent fears for their child

So get involved. Volunteer for political campaigns. Stay in school. very few successful politicians are without college degrees. There are many openings in various political organizations from local to national. They need to hear from young people, but not from armchair quarterbacks! Politicians listen to young people who are involved in their communities. Go for it!

indian parents are so unique in the world.they invest on their children right from their child hood.they all ways expect their son to give back what they invested in both economic and emotional form. it is obvious that they want their sons to be a doctor or a enginner as these professions are cash cows and a big craze in india.

Politics is part time job and wasting of time as well.so the parents doesn"t want to waste the time by his son.and they want to secure their future.so they encourge their son to join a profession where their future are secure.and as all we know that at the end politican consider himself abnormal when they find nothing in their life.
