I guess you have not read the four accounts of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.
Your verse come from John 5:30-47. It simple means that Jesus can not describe himself, but his description can be found in the Holy Scriptures starting with Moses and ending with John the Baptist. In short, the words of the prophets.
From the Greek, we have John 5:31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. 32 There is another that bears witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesses of me is true.
It is witness that is the topic. Who bears witness? It is someone other than Jesus. In fact, it is all the prophets.
And no this does not refer to Muhammad. It refers to the prophets from Moses to John the Baptist.

Are you sure that Jesus said that or John the Baptist. Jesus was saying(in the verse you indicated) is testify about Himself. That verse you quoted came from John the Baptist. You can read John 1: 19-34, to get the meaning of the verse you quoted. May God Bless

Jesus said that when He went back to heaven the Holy Spirit will be sent to us. He also said it was better for Him to go so that the Holy Spirit can fill and be dwelling inside all believers. When Jesus was on earth He was the only Man with the in-dwelling Holy Spirit. Now the Holy Spirit dwells on all believers and we together can do greater things than Jesus as He desires us to do. - John 14:12

John 5:31"If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid."
I think you got the wrong verse. Later in chapter 16 Jesus says the holy spirit will come after him.

I believe you are referring to verse 32. It is not talking about a person to come after Him, but of John the Baptizer, who is another witness of Him.

If I tell people about myself, then people cannot accept those things I say about myself. But there is another person that tells people about me. And I know that the things he says about me are true. "You have sent men to John. And he has told you about the truth. I don't need a man to tell people about me. But I tell you these things so that you can be saved. John was like a lamp that burned and gave light. And you were happy to enjoy his light for a while. "But I have a proof about myself that is greater than John. The things I do are my proof. These are the things my Father gave me to do. These things show that the Father sent me. And the Father that sent me has given proof about me himself. But you have never heard his voice. You have never seen what he looks like. The Father's teaching does not live in you. Why? Because you don't believe in the One the Father sent. You carefully study the Scriptures. You think that those Scriptures give you life forever. Those same Scriptures tell about me! But you refuse to come to me to have that life {you want}. "I don't want praise from you or any other human. But I know you--I know that you don't have God's love in you. I have come from my Father--I speak for him. But you don't accept me. But when another person comes speaking only for himself, you will accept him. You like to have praise from each other. But you never try to get the praise that comes from the only God. So how can you believe? Don't think that I will stand before the Father and say that you are wrong. Moses is the person that says that you are wrong. And Moses is the one that you hoped would save you. If you really believed Moses, you would believe me. Why? Because Moses wrote about me. But you don't believe what Moses wrote. So you cannot believe the things I say."

i wager he does not be too dissatisfied if he said the international in the present day. John bore witness of the truth and that truth was Jesus Christ. There is no person before nor after Jesus. Jesus let others tell of Whom He is (IE. witness). That is all He is saying. Jesus has a greater work than John as He said. The Holy Spirit....
John 5:31-47
31 "If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. 32 There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. 33 You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. 35 He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. 36 But I have a greater witness than John's; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish--the very works that I do--bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. 37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life. 41 I do not receive honor from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you--Moses, in whom you trust. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"
