IF I am going on a trip that is far away -- I keep with me an overnight bag with a couple of changes of clothes in it (and the toiletries) ... and then the rest goes in the bigger (checked luggage) suitcase in cargo.

I DO NOT buy clothes on the spot -- it is just too expensive and wasteful. It is so much better when you are travelling to take your own clothes with you, so that you are comfortable and do NOT have to worry about whether or not something is there on the other end of things.

take them w/u but just the essentials. when i went 2 italy this summer i brought so many clothes and wore maybe half of them. then when it was time 2 pack for the trip back i was amazed that i was actually able 2 fit everything in the suitcase w/all the clothes that i bought in italy. u end up buying so many things so make sure to leave some room because we barely fit in the car driving to the airport.

I always take clothes with me. Personally speaking, I couldn't afford to buy a new wardrobe at my destination. I'd rather spend that money on going out and enjoying the sights, anyway!

i guess that depends on your budget. But, considering you buy them on the spot, another question arises: do you take them back home with you. If you answer "yes" to this second question then i can't see why you shouldn't have brought clothes from home in the first place...

Bring the minimum and then buy the rest. Carrying stuff sucks. Oh.. don't buy souvenir clothes. it is just tacky.

Take with and then if there's anything that I don't have and need then I'll buy it.
