my son started at a daycare facility 5 weeks ago because i have gone back to work a couple of days a week. Since starting, he has come home 3 times with a viral infection. The first was just vomiting for one night, the second was the works with a measles type rash that lasted 3 days and the latest one has been vomiting for 2 days and was almost admitted into hospital this morning and put on a drip. I know it is usual for kids to pick things up at daycare, but surely not 3 times in 5 weeks? Do you think its just bad luck or should i look at moving him?

I would suggest you ask if other children have been getting sick lately. I also suggest you check out how healthy and sterile they keep their dare care. If any of the other children have been sick then you may want to see how and what has been done about their illness. If other mothers, fathers, or guardians are bringing them to the daycare even though the children are still ill. And What the daycare does about situations like this. Has the daycare said anything to you about seeing any signs of illness? If they haven't Then YES! Get him out of that daycare and do better research before you decide on the next one!!

Winter time and daycare will always result in lots of viruses. It'll happen at any daycare so there's no need to move him. And if it didn't happen in daycare, it would happen when he started kindergarten. 3 times in 5 weeks doesn't sound that unusual to me.
I hope your son gets better soon.

Of course this is normal for a child in daycare. Kids running around with runny noses, touching and mouthing the toys. Uncovered coughs and sneezing. Infrequent hand washing. That's how germs get spread. If you choose to put your child in that environment this is what you can expect.

sick, sad, but true, it probably is normal. yuk!
he has not been subjected to certain viruses to build up immunity. the only germs his body is used to is his family's.
monos has the right idea by surprise inspections.
do parents really drop their sick kids off at daycare? they should be paying ALL medical bills that pertain to sickness. it might make them think twice before spreading their kids' germs.

I would take you son medical records and Doctors note to the state liecensing and have them do a surprise inspection of your son center, to see if they are keeping up with sanitation requirements. then once you get the results, make a knowledgible choice.

Yes this is normal, So many kids with all these different diseases. It is not uncommon for kids to be bringing home something quite regugarly.
