I wrote something very similar to this on my blog last July. It's a little long, but here it is:

I've often wondered where the belief that Jesus will "consider" peoples prayers comes from.

If you read Matthew 7:7-8, Matthew 18:19-20, Matthew 21:21-22, Mark 11:24-25, Luke 11:9-13, John 14:13-14, John 15:7, John 15:16, John 16:23-24, Jesus clearly says that if you pray in his name he will answer your prayers, not that he will think about it. Jesus claimed repeatedly that he would answer all the prayers of the faithful who prayed in his name as a testiment to Gods glory.

Take John 14:13-14 (NAB) for example: And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.

"Whatever you ask in my name, I will do" is pretty cut and dried. There's really no room in that statement for error in understanding the meaning, nor is there room to interpret it as "Pray in my name, and I'll do what I think is best for you."

Now obviously Jesus can't answer every prayer that each Christian makes in his name. Aside from just being silly, it would create chaos in the world of, dare I say, Biblical proportions. So consider the following options:

1. Jesus lied. The church based on his life is a lie, and this falsehood has been passed on 2000 years too long.

2. Jesus told the truth, and it is a lack of faith in Jesus ability to actually answer all prayers that keeps him from doing so. The Christian faith is no longer viable in the eyes of God.

Either way, doesn't it seem like a waste of time and effort to continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah? On one hand, the myth of Jesus as the son of God would seem to be instantly invalidated. On the other hand, Jesus has clearly turned his back on the faithful for the last 2000 years. Christians must now rationalize prayer in order to ignore the fact that whether or not a prayer is answered, is sheer chance.

Might as well pray to The Cat in the Hat if you ask me. It's likely to have the same results. Well, actually thats not entirely accurate. A recent Christian study showed that sick people who knew they were recieving prayer were 70% more likely to have medical complications after surgery than those who either did not know, or who recieved no prayer. Make that out however you want to, but I would think it should be pretty obvious...

I can handle skeptics.. they dont offend me but this guy is to the average skeptic was Rev Phelps is to the average Christian. Which... is an IDIOT.

I couldnt even listen to the whole thing, in his first "proof that Jesus lied" he read "believe and do not doubt and this will be done for you" So he "tries" it... of course nothing happens because if most Christians dont have enough faith to move a mountain, you know this dork wasnt acting on faith. He doesnt prove Jesus lied... he proves he's a dork. Even uneducated Atheists and Agnostics would notice the "and do not doubt" part.

NOOOOOO.....
There will always be some people who refuse to admit there is a God because their pride will not allow them to imagine someone or something they might owe their very existence to. They are too selfish to think they owe their life to anything but to chance.

They reach and stretch and twist things to suit their own opinions and then try to mislead others into believing their delusions.

I tried to get to your link, but I was spared that waste of time. The Bible tells us that the Almighty One can not lie. Jesus is "The Way, the Truth, and the Life". Jesus is the Truth, whatever He says is true. Period.
