I mean, would God really come down or send his son down to earth in human form? I have a big problem with this concept.
I mean in the western world we ridicule and pity those people who pray to statues or trees or mountains or whatever, but a human being is just as ridiculous. I mean a mere mortal, come off it.
He was a prophet no doubt and his preachings were good, but dont tell me he was the 'son of God'. And then this lie about virgin birth, every teenage girl would love to have that excuse!

No of course they don't. What do you think, idiot. And the bit about how every teenage girl would love to have that excuse? I think it's a shame that a website has become a medium to express your misguided opinions. You need to have more than an amoeba's grasp of religion before you start slamming it.

I think that yes Christians really do believe that, as weird as that might sound to you. The logistics of this are open to be interpreted differently. Maybe some believe that Jesus has the same biological makeup as god, I think others don't interpret the word "son" quite so literally.

And to the answerer:
I always wonder how God feels when christians think of Jesus as God and how that fits with the 4th commandment
ie:
4You shall not make for yourself an image, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth

John of Damascus replied to this, that the coming of Christ had radically changed the situation, and that the commandment must now be understood in a new way, just as the commandment to "Remember the Sabbath Day" must be understood in a new way since the Resurrection of Jesus on the first day of the week.

Before the Incarnation, it had indeed been improper to portray the invisible God in visible form; but God, by taking fleshly form in the person of Jesus Christ, had blessed the whole realm of matter and made it a fit instrument for manifesting the Divine Splendor. He had reclaimed everything in heaven and earth for His service, and had made water and oil, bread and wine, means of conveying His grace to men. He had made painting and sculpture and music and the spoken word, and indeed all our daily tasks and pleasures, the common round of everyday life, a means whereby man might glorify God and be made aware of Him. (Note: I always use "man" in the gender-inclusive sense unless the context plainly indicates otherwise.)

We do all believe different things, isn't that amazing?

The Bible states that Jesus was the Son of God. The Quran states that Jesus was a prophet and not the son of God. It is down to the individual what they believe and in truth, I don't believe that other beliefs should be pushed. Everyone has an opinion and rightly so, voice it if you want, but people should make up their own minds and their beliefs should not be ridiculed. You wouldn't like it if something you believed in was made to appear false or insignificant. It's boils down to respect and ignorance today is no excuse.

Yes, we as Christians do believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
If you read the Bible about the story of Jesus and the Virgin birth, then you would now have any problem with the concept. Jesus is not a mere mortal, He came into this world to save us from our sins and to die for out sins. People can pray to anything/anyone they please, but I doubt they get answers. Open your heart and eyes to the truth, seek the answers and you will find why we do believe in God.

Jesus is no "mere mortal." You come off it!! He is the Son of the Living God!! Of course the virgin birth is a mystery to us "mere mortals" because God's ways are so far above our ability to comprehend. That's where FAITH comes in and changes lives forever. Now we see darkly as through a mirror but then we shall see Him face to face and we will understand it all.

he was the manifestation of god in human form. not literally the biological son of god, but the spiritual son of god. the capacity of our brain to acknowledge that jesus and the father are one is limited, because god is outside time and space, hence not confined to our physical and mental abilities. god as the son was nessecary to speak god the father's word, and also as a perfect sacrifice to rid the world of the need for a ritual sacrifice. since the perfect sacrifice was given up, a christian does not have to physically do anything to recieve salvation. that is the miracle of god's love. jesus was not mere mortal. if he had been mere mortal, then he would have naturally been flawed.

Yes, I absolutely DO believe that Jesus Christ was and is the Son of God. He came down to be the final sacrifice needed to cover our sins. There is no more need for blood sacrifice of an animal. Jesus took the weight of the sin of the entire world so that we could be free.

This is just one MORE way that God tried to show Himself to us and we, in all our grand human nature, just couldn't believe. He wanted to send His Son in our human form so that He could be seen and touched by us and so that His Son could experience on a human level what we go through in life. He can identify with me now when I pray to Him because He has lived through it already.

I don't ridicule those who pray to trees or statues. I feel sorry for them that they are so mislead. Why would anyone choose to worship a tree that was merely created by God rather than the God who created it? Why would anyone choose to bow to a rock when the Bible says that if no one proclaims the name of God even the rocks will cry out to Him? That's the ONLY way anyone is ever going to get any wisdom out of a rock.

Jesus Christ was the only immortal mortal. He was the only "human" who knew no sin until He took the weight of our sin upon Himself.

Remember the angel visited Joseph too and told him about what Mary was carrying in his Womb.So even Joseph knew it was a virgin birth, dont put it on the "teenage girl" alone.

Secondary, the birth of Jesus was pre determined hundreds of years earlier. There are thousands of prophesies that talk about this that if you read them, you would no doubt understand the whole event.

What i suggest to you is to read the bible, the whole of it.Reading just one part of it,you wont understand it well. One part of the bible will help you interprete the other.Thats why i was reminding you of the prophesies about the virign birth.

I suggest you read 3 chapters of the bible each day,5 chapters on a sunday, please begin with the gospels and you will have gone thru the whole bible in one year.

yes Christians Believe it if they are Christains. here is why, God set forth the LAW. the law had to be met or if it was broken the bible says that without the sheding of blood there is no remission or forgivness for sin. the people had to sacrafice animals and shed the blood in order to cover their sins. it was a death in place of theirs. Jesus was the final and perfect Death it paid for all sins both past and present of those who put their faith in the fact that he is the one who paid the final price for our sin. God came in the flesh the bible says to pay the price for his creation. Jesus is God not just the Son of God. it did happen and Jesus fulfilled many years of prophacy. even the sceptics cant deny it. He did live, He did die on a cross, and there is recorded evidence that he rose from the dead even in non biblical records. it makes more sence then anything else. and it fits perfectly with the oldest texts we have.

Yes, He was conceived by The Holy Spirit. Isaiah said his name would be Emmanuel, that is God among us. King David called Him "My Lord" which makes Him greater than David, so not just a mere descendent. Eevry person with a human father is born into sin. Jesus was sinless, so could not have a human father.
