a piggy bank? A scrap book, or autograph book wherein the relatives could sign it with a message for her for when she grows up? My family used to save silver dollars so why not buy an expensive coin with the year of her birth on it? The only other one I know of is after she's grown out of her first pair of soled shoes you can have those bronzed, and as I grew older my mother bought me a ring with a heart stone in it, my grandfather used to buy me gold crosses, once I got a bracelet with my name engraved on it (and when you opened it up there was a picture of my parents in there). I also got necklaces with a heart that you could put a picture inside. So there you are, a list of gifts for the next several years.

I absolutely love the idea of a scrapbook. Just love your baby like always, play with her, take pictures, and put them in a scrapbook so she will always be able to see how special you made her first Christmas for her. And, of course, every year after that! Maybe even a special Christmas only one, so she can look back on it? I would LOVE to have had something like that now that I could appreciate it!

A savings bond would be a great "to grow on" gift.
My kids always loved the Baby Einstein videos and toys and also the "Sassy" brand toys when they were little. Bath toys were a big hit at age 1 - 2 also.
When my daughter was a baby, we got her a nightlight that had movable lights on it and she would watch it every night when she went to sleep.

A scrapbook with all the photos you've taken so far, with a letter to her older self from her mommy! Or you could get a couple Dr. Seuss books to read with you. Happy early 1st bday to your girly!!

G'day Pepermint p,

Thank you for your question.

I would look at something that can continue throughout her childhood such as establishing a college fund.

She will not be aware of Christmas anyway at that age.

Regards

Unless you are talking about a donation to their college savings fund . . . everything else is just a 24 hour fun trip.
It is not like anyone actually remembers stuff at 1 yr old.

A engraved silver item, like a spoon or rattle would be nice. You could put her name and Christmas 2006 on it.
