Elphaba: Tell me something I don't know! Cell formation still doesn't explain the start of the FIRST heart beat. Like I said, IT STARTS FROM NOWHERE! Explain that please.

It is called automaticity. It is the ability of cardiac cells to provide their own electrical impulse. It is also the reason why when the hearts primary node fail another cell will take over to provide direction to the rest.

Hey Margret from the anti choice movement actually makes a very good argument for stem cell research. Better watch out Maggie, if the other Nazis find this out they won't let you back in the clubhouse.

God and Life. It's very simple really...to all of us EXCEPT to those who think that abortion is no bigger a deal than having a tooth pulled or a tick taken off of their skin.

And the heartbeat DOES start as early as 4 weeks after conception. A single cell differentiates from the others as one of the three types of muscle cells in the human body; striated (muscles that move your bones) smooth (muscles that move involuntarily like your bowels) and cardiac (the specialized muscle that is your heart). If an individual cell is removed from a beating heart, that individual cell continues to beat until of course it dies. The beating heart is just a collection of individually beating cells. This is how it is possible for an EMBRYO to have a beating heart.

A myocytes heart cell's function is to beat. It doesn't need to form into a heart to beat. It can beat independently in a petri dish without connection to others.

It is not proof that a soul is present.

You're talking about a fetus, not an embryo. And it's growth...the formation of more cells upon cells.

Well ask a ******' cardiologist if you want the exact science of it. Oh wait, they probably don't exist in your world.

once "life" is established then it can be radified as death to take it.

As a mother, that heartbeat on a ultrasound monitar sounds like a snare drum, it beats so fast ( like a bird). Its the most comforting sound to a new mom.
