A liquid diet works, but most people don't want to lose weight for a few weeks, they want to keep the fat off for a long time. A liquid diet is usually low in calories, low enough that your body switches into starvation mode, conserving every bit of energy. So after a few days, your body stops burning fat as fast.

After the diet is over (you don't want to live on that stuff your whole life?!) your body will prepare for another starvation time. And that means that even a regular healthy diet will help your body store energy - as extra flab on your tummy, hips and legs.

You're better off (especially if you are still a teenager) by just exercising (shoot for 4-5 times a week, 30-45 minutes each time) and keeping a food diary, to really learn how much good food and junk food you are putting in your belly.

A liquid diet is simply not eating solid foods. You may or may not lose weight depending on the liquids you choose.

Losing weight is about calories in (eating & drinking) and calories out (energy expended by your body). If the calories out are more than the calories in you will lose weight.

So, if you go on a liquid diet and drink water, low salt buillion, vegetable juice, reasonable quantities of diluted fruit juice and other sensible liquids, you will probably be consuming less calories than you use and will lose weight. BUT - if you don't change the eating habits that got you to a place where you feel you need to lose weight, you're going to put that weight right back on when you start eating solid food again, and maybe more because your body will have gone into starvation mode and be doing it's best to suck every calorie it can get out of everything you consume..

The best way to lose weight is to eat sensible portions of healthy foods, be sure to snack on fruits and veges in reasonable quantities, drink lots of water, take multivitamins and get adequate exersize. Starving yourself and beating yourself up with an abrupt strenuous exersize regime will doom you to fall back into old habits.

That being said, going on a liquid diet as outlined above, for a few days, not more than a week, as a precurser to a new sensible eating and exersize regime could help you kick start a proper and healthy diet regime. It will shrink your stomach so you will want to eat less and give you a quick result. There's nothing more motivating during dieting than to see that number going down. Just do it healthy. Rapid weight loss ultimately always comes back and it's really hard on your internal organs as well as your self esteem. And if you do try it, be sure to get enough protien.

Liquid diets, or fasting does work to lose weight rapidly. However, this is only a loss of water, not necessarily fat or unwanted weight. This is not a healthy idea because you cannot stay on this liquid-based plan for an extended period. The longest one should try something of this sort is 1 week unless for religious or cleansing purposes or if you are overweight and under the supervision of your doctor, as your metabolism begins to slow down after approximately 5-7 of not consuming food. Personally I have tried this method for other purposes than for weight loss and it is more common to gain the weight back and more once you return to your usual eating patterns. Try to eat balanced meals instead. good luck!

Consult your doctor for REAL advice.

For me, I usually prepare 32 oz. of a mix of spinach, carrots, and cauliflower. The main veggie is spinach. After pureeing I refrigerate. Every morning I drink 8 oz. - and yes, that was breakfast.

At lunch I have 10 - 12 ounces of soup, or pork chops with veggies.

Nothing for dinner ;0(

Sorry but this diet keeps you healthy and will help you lose weight.

Eat veggies, wheat, and a little bit of meat. Then excercise until you drop. No liquid diet will work better.
