Kongming was often times fond of planting explosives at an area of ambush. The enemy would rush in quite foolishly and would then perish in an agony of burnt flesh. I, in my relative foolishness at the time, was quick to question this tactic. I asked him, "Why go through such trouble? Would it not be easier to simply ride out and behead the enemy general?". Careful reexamining of this strategy over the years has caused me to believe that Kongming was indeed right, and I have since heartily apologized.
