I usually like dinner and dancing, or a nice piano bar type place for the first date. Truly about anywhere that you can talk to get to know each other better is fine with me. That's why I am not big on the movies, because we can't really talk there for trying to watch the movie. I even prefer the first date to be more of a lunch type meeting that way if either of you are not attracted that much after spending a little time together it can be over with then, rather than spending several hours with someone you are not comfortable with, and you can always ask for a dinner date that same evening.

A movie doesn't really give you time to get to know them. and only if it is either scary or romantic does it include cuddling in any form. The Scary cuddle consists of her trying to hide behind you or she attempts to bury her head in your chest. The Romantic cuddle is where she gently rests her head on your shoulder.

Dinner is very traditional and lets you take time and get to know the person. afterwards you could go and do some activity together. A good idea is to plan 2 things for her to choose between and also offer to let her come up with an alternative activity.

some good activities include a...
Walk through a park or garden.
Going Caroling. (Christmas Group date)
Walking while looking at the christmas lights.
(Candycane Lane - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada)
(Hot chocolate could also be included)
Tobaganning, snowboarding, or skiing (Group date)
Build a Snowman.
Ice Skating
Go and watch a meteor shower.
Bike ride.
Play a board game (Group date)
Twister (Group date)
Test Drive Fancy Cars
Minature Golf
Amusment Park
Dancing
Window Shop at the Mall
(Go look at the Pet store, or go to one of those places where you assemble your own Teddy Bear) Girls ussually like cute things.
Etc...

Well the dinner and a movie thing is nice, but there's not really a lot of time to get to know the person. I'd suggest maybe just doing something simple, maybe like just hangout at the mall or at a like a coffee shop. I'm the kind of guy that would generally like to get to know the woman I'm interested in dating.

Roller rink, or ice rink maybe. I think the restaurant/movie seems boring because you have to act proper at a nice restaurant and you cant talk during the movie.

I never take my first dates out to the movies (anti-social) or restaurants (I dont want to see her eat or have her see me eat).
I rather take her to a place where she can let loose & have fun like a theme park with rides or ice-skating or dancing. I alsways get better results that way.

restaurant is not overdone, if you go to a fun restaurant or an ethnic one, like Thai or Indian

I always kinda liked going shopping somewhere. Daytime, you know, a lunch date. Nothing is formal or intimidating, no stuffy clothes. Just casual and browsing/commenting on stuff, getting to know eachother.

I prefer to dine for the first date, because I am able to understand and talk to her, she will have a chance to know about me and my family to.
