Its legal until next year. (But that's only if you guys have sex)

Nothing can be done. Law is law.

I don't know I live in the UK, but I thought US law is sex under 18 is illegal so as long as there is no sex involved then no but at that young age 3 years is a big difference and a bit worrying as one only has one year to be legal

Although completely natural if they were 21 and 18 at 17 and 14 the older of the two could end up with a criminal record just for being in love

If the girl is 14, then I say monitor all of her free time and the time she is out of the house. Monitor her phone calls and her MySpace (if she has a computer). She shouldn't be dating at 14 in the first place. If she is out with a group, make sure that there are adult chaperones. NO dropping her off at the movie theater and that sort of thing. If she says she is going to a friend's house to spend the night, etc., then make sure you know the parents of the friend and that they will be there. The key is to keep her from the opportunity to hook up with the guy.

Not unless there has been actual sex between them.
If there has been, then file charges against the 17 year old
for rape.
Even in cases of consentual sex it is still considered rape by the law, because the 14 year old is under age (legally) to have consentual sex.
If this has happened then you have the legal grounds to press charges against him/her..

I think you can date any girl at any age you'd like regardless of where you live, but to do anything more than just 'dating' is a different story.
