Muslim women have the right to education, vote, own property, choose their spouses, divorce, set marriage restrictions (in their contract), have a job, teach and join the army in Islam. Unfortunately some women are not demanding their rights and are thus living under restrictions. While Islam highly regards modesty, chastity and protection it does not sanction injustice, inconvenience and burdens for women. Likewise, in Christianity women are subject to their husbands' will as they must 1. submit to their husbands 2. remain silent in church 3. they are the head of man 4. women were created for men not vice versa 5. women are wicked as Eve was the first to sin 6. when a girl is born the mother is unclean for a longer time than when a boy is born. How do Christians explain all of these things?? I can site every single one if you'd like too.
Open your eyes and filter out the lies. Peace.

I'm a Muslim lady. I live in a Muslim country. I have walked the street here at 11pm alone, without fear or worry. I drive, & go out by myself. I go shopping alone. I am a medical professional & in addition to that, I run my own business. Islam as a religion repsects & liberates women. As far as covering up, a Muslim woman covers herself as part of her faith. It is her right not to reveal her beauty to just anyone. She doesn't have to cover up in front of women, her husband, her father, her brothers, uncles, grandfather, nephews. She only covers in front of men she can marry. Why is that seen as unacceptable? Surely its is her "right" who can see her beauty & who cannot?
And just because a government impliments an unreasonable, unfair, tyranical law doesn't mean it is Islamic. In the US legally you can perform an abortion until the due date (this is a fact), does that mean Christianity supports it?

Islam to me is all about male domination and control. Where else can a woman be raped and then take the blame because she has not got enough witnesses and may have to marry the perpetrator to avoid punishment. Where else can a woman be stoned to death for adultery while the man is only censured because he was tempted by a woman. Then you have the delightful habit of brothers killing their sisters because they have upset the family honour for some reason or other. If you want to convince the world that your religion is all peace and light I would suggest you show a lot more tolerance and understanding.

It is not that it teaches us to not be brave,... It is that it teaches us that we are more important than to be given out very easily.
Islam proves how precious we are.
Before Islam,.. women were no more than property that can be inherited. But when Islam came, it gave women the right to own property, it gave them the right to decide who they marry, it gave them the right to participate in social issues, it gave them the right to vote....
True,.. that women aren't talking in public much, nor are they strolling around in the streets, but that is for their own sake.
I'll just give you a simple example...
How hard do non-Muslim women work, yet they are still paid less. In Islam women are equal to men.
How hard do women torture themselves just to look beautiful, yet in Islam what matters is the person inside, not NECESSARILY how a women looks.
I'm a Muslim, and I've studied a good amount about the role of women in Islam... and believe me,... there is no other religion that cares for women the way Islam does.
I love the way Islam goes, it just shows how much we are respected.
Peace.

Islam teaches that women are the property of their Fathers or Husbands. It is perfectly permissible for a man to have 4 wives at any given time, and if he tires of one wife he may divorce her summarily, and take another wife. A husband may beat his wife if he chooses to do so. It is not considered unusual for a Man to take and consummate his marriage with a nine or ten year old girl. This is very common among Muslims in Afghanistan. In Saudi Arabia, women still don't have the vote and may not drive an automobile.

There are few countries that give their cultural traditions the name of Islam. Why are you taking them as examples when the vast majority are happily enjoying their freedom.
