why he is famous?
maybe its because....It has been estimated that Picasso produced about 13,500 paintings or designs, 100,000 prints or engravings, 34,000 book illustrations and 300 sculptures or ceramics.

and might be because...Picasso's work is often categorized into "periods". While the names of many of his later periods are debated, the most commonly accepted periods in his work are the Blue Period (1901–1904), the Rose Period (1905–1907), the African-influenced Period (1908–1909), Analytic Cubism (1909–1912), and Synthetic Cubism (1912–1919).

well maybe because of how he looks at things..differenly than we do...A man once criticized Picasso for creating unrealistic art. Picasso asked him: "Can you show me some realistic art?" The man showed him a photograph of his wife. Picasso observed: "So your wife is two inches tall, two-dimensional, with no arms and no legs, and no color but only shades of gray?"

and to prove that he is good..he got the International Lenin Peace Prize (1962)

so...that much i found out abt him...

I am really surprised to hear that some people put Picasso into abstract painting! Abstract painting is not the same as cubism. Picasso and Braque invented cubism, a style which was presenting objects and the world inbasig geometric forms. In his last works, Pisacco did get pretty close to abstract art, but he was still presenting something (his state of mind was never painting without presenting something), so we cannot talk about abstract. Now, what he did is influence other painters who did make abstract art. Actually, that is the thing that made him so famouse, the way he influenced the art of the XX century.
First of all he was a restless mind, with amaising drawing skills at the age of only 12!(His father was a painter, so it was a good background) In his ouvre, he passed many phases like: pink, blue, cubism, etc. Some of these phases lasted only 1-2 years. In his time he was something schocking, something new for the eyes of art lovers. And by everything he did, he influenced other artists tremendously..so that is what made him so grand.
I am not so crazy about his works( it does not move me emotionally, just intelectually) but I am aware that he is a genious.
He was such a genious, that he could hardly make a bad peace!
Hope this answers your question.

Why Is Pablo Picasso Famous

Everything Picasso did was innovative. You mightn't appreciate it now, but alot of art movements might never have occurred without the influence of Picasso's work. Most of the time, the reason for an artists importance has little to do with their technical skill, and more to do with their creativity and ability to think outside of the box. You might be interested to know that Picasso could paint like any Italian master by the time he was 15 years old - check out these: http://www.abcgallery.com/P/picasso/picasso172.html

He was considered a child prodigy and consciously decided to return to child-like when he realised that technical skill could take him no further. His life's work is so huge and varied, he deserves all the acclaim he gets.

First of all, Picasso could draw with greater mastery than just about anyone from the 20th century. Most people just don't realize because all they know is a cliche of his distored women and they think it requires no skill. You should study his entire works, and look at what art came before him and after him before making a comment like that (even though I don't like Picasso, I can acknowledge his mastery). He was the most prolific artist in history, as well as the richest artist in history, but of course a lot of that came from being in the right artistic circles. He was basically the center of 20th Century European Art, think about it. Like The Beatles of Modern Art.

Sometimes we need heros, people who have acted or act in such a way that allows us to make them bigger than life. Jackson Pollack is one artist who our nation needed to round out our coming of age. Other nations do similarly whether in sports, entertainment, arts, politics, space, or the military. Picasso was a good artist, and he was different, asking and answering questions through his work that took us beyond where we were. And, he was irasable , an outspoken, brutal sort of man, capable of attracting women despite his intolerance of them. A great media personality. Together with his daring, unconventional eye, he offered up a new perspective timed to revolutionary desires. Art has never been the same since Picasso, whether you admire his work or hate it. He was not alone in his point of view but he was a great focal point.

Along with Kandinsky, he might be the most important artist of the 20th century. He wasnt a very loveable man, but he was a brilliant artist. People too often criticize artwork that they don't understand. His Les Demoiselles d'Avignon from 1907 is credited as being the first "Modern" painting. He just about lead the course for art during the very exciting beginning of the 20th century. so thats why he's so famous.

Good question! The answer is 'self-promotion'. And he was one of the most prolific artists ever. He made art everyday of his life and he knew how to promote himself better than most artists do. The man could draw ; I'll give him that!
