I don't know a lot about it, except that I think it tastes really gross; it's too sweet. Anyway, I do know it has cloves and caffeine in it!

here's an article:

I don't know exactly which Chai you had (actually Chai is an Indian name for TEA), you can add various spices to the Chai, for example green cardmom (called as 'Elaichi' in Hindi) or Ginger or cloves or you even get tea masala (i.e. special spices for adding to a tea) you can get these powdered spices in any Indian grocery shop.
and i''l tell you how we prepare it at home. for a cup of tea take a cup of water add either 1 small teaspoon of fresh ginger paste or 2 cloves or 2 cardmoms(powder it). and boil it for 1minute after the water boils add 1 small teaspoon of tea powder(Assam Tea) then add sugar(as per ur taste). let it boil for some more time (approx 2 minutes) until the sugar dissolves then add milk (Cow's or Buffalo's fresh milk) again let it boil for some more time.
Switch off the stove and the Chai is ready, put throught a sieve (strain it) and it's ready to drink.

note- if you have cough or cold then its best to put dry ginger powder in the tea. u can experiment for different flavors e.g you can add basil leaves or even add some rose petals (or rose water) for a rose flavor. but i recommend small green cardmoms and ginger

Me loves Chai Tea. I had not had it in awhile, however! My favorite beverage is water! I can drink without the calories, it flushes out your system, and if drank the right way, can aid in weight loss. I prefer the fruity kind, like strawberry or cherry. But I'll drink tap water too, if I'm in the right town. I love OJ as well! I cannot explain why. When I was carrying my child, I drank 64 ounces of it in a day. I like soy milk. My stomache cannot handle regular milk. Sometimes at the Starbucks in my local Barnes & Nobles I like to order Italian soda! It's lemon-lime soda, half-n-half, flavoring syrup, and topped with whipped cream. Mm Mm good! With Pizza, rootbeer is my fave! I recently tried sparking grape soda! GOOD! I like any grape juice that tastes like wine. I won't be picking alcoholic beverages as my fave as I'm a rare drinker. Once every several weeks to some months. I don't have to drink to enjoy life. But because of the benefits of water, I have to have IT to enjoy life!

well. as some body said earlier Chai=tea, but in India tea is made with milk and ginger, cardamom. but as I remember( 54 yrs) and In Hyderabad,India, where in irani hotels(very popular) the chai(milk tea) is laced with opium and they are very addictive.
I have been told that practice is discontinued now, more because of cost.

1-1/2 cups unsweetened instant tea
2 tsp. ground ginger
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground cardamom

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. In a blender or food processor bowl, place 1 cup at a time, and process until mixture is blended and the particles are fine.
Add 2 heaping serving tablespoons Chai tea mixture to a mug of boiling water and stir to mix well.

*If you can't find vanilla powder, mix 2 tsp. vanilla extract with some of the sugar until blended and dry. Then process with remaining ingredients in blender or food processor.

Right on! Cloves is one of the spices. The others are cinnamon, cardomom, ginger and star anise. It's a Darjeeling tea, so it does have caffeine in it, and that means it isn't quite as good as green tea -- but it is tasty, isn't it?
