You will need a film scanner if you want the best quality. Some flatbeds do a halfway decent job. It depends on how good you want the final image to really be.
You can buy a used scanner on Ebay scan the slides and resell it at probably no loss. Make sure you get a scanner with digital ICE. It automatically reduces dust spots, the bain of scanning film.
There are also sites that will scan them for you for a fee.
