On the supply tube connected to the burner there is a sliding piece that adjusts the air/gas mixture. Before lighting, make sure that the piece slides easily. Light and adjust the sliding piece until the flame burns blue.

Evan, your air/fuel mixture is off a little bit but, it can be changed easily. Also DO NOT adjust your propane regulator,as this will cause you to richen your air fuel/ mixture, but it will also increase your line pressure which with time will result in serious injurys and or death!!! also I hold a degree in the oil&gas industry. also for knowledge . propane at the correct air/fuel mixture should be Lt. green with a blue tip Nat.gas should be a Lt to Med blue if you see orange in your Nat.gas that is Not air it is Co2 other wise known as Carbon Dioxide it comes from a Nat.gas well that was put to the sales pipeline to early befroe the well was cleaned up enough.I doubt I helped you in any way but I am also really bored and tired this evening,Chris

There is too much air going in the line. This can be adjusted by a screw that is close by, you should be able to see the screw. With the fire on, turn the screw one way or the other until the flame is the way you want it.

The burner is dirty and the air/fuel mix is off. Clean the burner and/or adjust the opening where the air mixes (a slot with a screw usually)
