The heck, no True, he is an outstanding player of the most popular sport in the country. True, he has been a youth Icon for almost 2 decades now. Khel Ratna.. OK Padam Shri.. OK Padam Bhushan.. rare, but OK Bharat Bhushan? NO WAYS. It is the top most honour exclusively for absolutely self less outstanding service to the nation. My reasons: 1. Cricketers today are commercial, and amass heaps pf money thru prozes, Sponsorships and what not. Definitely not self less 2. They play for a private-for-profit-CLUB called BCCI which has refused to be responsible to the nation in several affidavits before the honorable Courts including the Supreme Court 3. Several other players have brought massive laurels to the nation. Should they all be awarded the Bharat Ratna? (eg Kapil Dev, Major Dhyan Chand....) 4. Cricket is played only in select few countries _mostly ex colonies of the British_ may be about a dozen or so,,, and is NOT an international sport
