first...to cite a law, we'd have to know the state you're in....every state has different numbers for the laws on battery...second, you can't look this up on the web with out paying a subscription to a legal site concerned with the state you're in (law books are expensive and so are legal sites). You will need to call about to libraries, (probably at your local university) and when you find a place with your state's legal code (usually 15 to 20 feet worth of books),. Go, find the index books, look up aggravated assault, find the correct volume and page and read. If convicted, he will not only be facing a felony, but a domestic abuse charge which carries special probationary and reporting rules. (for after he gets out of jail.)

That's all if you just want to read the law and the potential time he can be sentenced to...if you don't want to do all that, just go to the police department and file a complaint and they'll take it from there.

Yes, it is. It is covered under the assault laws in every state. Unless a weapon is used or severe bodily injury resulted from the incident, it is a misdemeanor.
Most states now have Domestic Violence Laws. This is basically an enhanced assault law that applies to assaults that occur between family members and/or intimate partners.
In Tennessee, if an officer has reasonable suspicion that an assault has occurred in a domestic relationship, he has to make an arrest.
There are also Protection Orders available from most states that can help protect people from intimate partners.
Your state should have a web site that will have this info on it. You can also go to your local library to get a copy of individual statutes.

Yes! It is also illegal to hit ANYONE! Although hitting a woman is considered to be be more of a crime. But if a woman hits a man it is not considered more than simple assult.

I can't quote you the book and page number of the law, just take it from me as truth. You can't hit ANYONE!
