For a majority of last year i had really bad stomache problems, there was a constant shooting pain in my stomache, but it wasn't from being hungry or any of that stuff. i thought it might be an ulcer caused from stress, so i went to a few doctors and none of them really did anything, at some point i ended up getting influenza and after that it all kind of went away. now it's back though, and it's such a nexcruciating pain when it happens. it's just like i'm being stabbed, i'm thinking it might be an ulcer again- i also heard that excessive burping was a symptom of an ulcer, too? i burp all the time- even on an emprty stomache, and they're not just puny little burps. they're pretty furocious. i guess i'm just trying to figure out if this is something i should be worried about? the doctors never really did anything about it before but it's gradually getting worse.
maybe i should go back?
any suggestions on what it might be?

Could be anything. I would have the dr. do an upper GI exam. They should really check into the problem and inform you as to what the cause is. If its an ulcer and not taken care of with medication it could lead to ableeding ulcer, thats trouble you don't want. Don't wait any longer go see a Gastronologist soon!!!

it's disappointing that your doctors did not help you before. You are sick. Yes do go back but to another doctor. Ask to be checked for an ulcer. They do that with a blood test now. If the doctor is not helpful tell him you are getting worse and really need his help. Stomach ulcers are caused by a bacteria which is detected in the blood. There are other diagnoses you could possibly have, also. Ask to be referred to a stomach specialist if doc is still not helpful. Best wishes to you.

I think it would be a very good idea to forget the regular physicians and go see a Gastrointestinal Specialist. I spent 14 days in the hospital on pain meds and nausea medication, had an MRI, MRCT, ERCP, Endoscope, an upper GI. After racking up almost 30K in hospital bills, the Gastrointestinal Specialist ran another Endoscope, a lower GI and a Colonoscopy to find out that I had irritable bowel syndrome. He now has me on a cocktail of drugs, but let me tell you - I'm a whole new person.
It could be something completely different for you, but if you are having problems with your gut and the regular docs don't know what to do for you - it is in your best interest to go see a Gastrointestinal Specialist.

unfortunately, it's not wise to try and self diagnose stomach pain.too many things it could be.

go to your doctor. ask him to be thorough for your peace of mind. if he wants to treat you for ulcers, you should be on an antibiotic as they are caused by bacteria. it's probably unlikely to be appendicitis because of the longevity of the problem. it could even be bowel distension or even just bad gas. that gives very sharp pain, and if caused by some other problem can stick around for a fair while on and off again.

You really need to get a second opinion, possibly from a specialist, I have a long list of medical problems and I can tell you that if your doc keeps saying he doesnt know or it isnt that big of a deal, he/she possibly doesnt know either, so ask them to refer you to a specialist, a gastroenterologist or other internal medicine doctor for more extensive testing........This could be serious stuff, dont mess around with your health!!!!

when doctors dont pay attention to your problems you have to get a new doctor or continue to go back a million times until they solve your issue...i dont know what this could be it might be serious and it might not be...better safe then sorry

I'm not a doctor so I would say try another one. Could be IBS, gallbladder, or appendicitis, but you didn't say where the pain is exactly.
