I ran out of catfood Sunday morning, and cant get money out of the bank til' mon. morning. They were really hungry so I cut up some tortilla shell and put a spoon of chicken gravy (so they would actually eat the bread) and a piece of beef lunch meat. I know its probably a bad combo, and not to make a habit of it, but it was just a quick fix until morning. Question is, do you think I will wake up in the morning to find little "surprises" from them, or do you think they'll be alright for the night? I know a common answer might be "depends on howsensitive their stomachs are" and they have normal stomachs i guess...any advice would be appreciated. just need some peace of mind for the night. Thanks.

It was only a spoonfull of gravy so hopefully that wont affect them too much. But ya'll did ease my mind a bit and thank you very much! Will definately clean the liter box just in case. They have in the past chosen against the box so I will just have to see if they've changed their tune over the months :) Thanks again all!

Wish I could respond to ya'll individually...thanks to the person who fed their cat stuffing for turkey day...actually, I don't eat a lot at home, usually sandwhiches and had 3 pieces of lunchmeat left and figured the cats needed it more than me...all i had left was soups and beans, figured the tortillas and a spoon of gravy were safer than soup/pork n beans/veggies, dont ya think? lol...anyhow, like i said, it was a one time quick fix until tomorrow...

Thanks a bunch everyone...I thought one of them was gonna get sick, but woke up this morning to no surprises...the tortilla was flour (not corn) but all the same, yes I should find something else for emergencies. Anyhow, thanks again for all the reassurance!!!

Anything is better than nothing when you're out of cat food.I've done this a lot of times.I like to buy cheap tuna when it's on sale,so in an emergency I'll have something they like. But there's nothing wrong with what you gave them.It had protein, fat and carbs, and they liked it,so it's fine.At least you're feeding them.

The gravy and meat was probably just fine (tasty even), but corn is not very healthy for kitties. Sounds like an ok dinner overall though, just if there is a next time you might want to give them some rice instead of corn tortilla. =)

how would you feel if after years (even in cat years(by the way how long are cat years)) of eating scientifically created well balanced nutritional meals all of the sudden start eating low budget home made taco bell look alike meal with left over meat (which guessing by the time it is and being lunch meat it probably is not edible anymore). My guess you will have to call Stanleys carpet cleaner early in the morning along with industrial strength Febreeze.....
good luck.
and sorry for the bad news....

I'm not sure if the chicken gravy was a good idea or not. I doubt they'll get sick over it though, from one feeding.
Anytime I ever run out of cat food (not very often), I will usually give them cooked chicken or a can of tuna.

This has happened to me before. Now what I do is keep a couple of cans of wet food handy. I never feed them wet food, but in a pinch I know that I have it handy. Plus it is smaller than keeping an extra bag of food around and since I don't use it on a regular basis, it is always there.
Very inventive what you fed your kitties. They probably enjoyed it very much! My cats would have loved it, but one of them would have thrown it up an hour later.

I always keep instant brown rice, canned mackerel, and tuna on hand for such ER's. I feed my cats a variety of food from raw to freeze dried that I have to mix with water.
I agree they probably would have been better with nothing. It is recommended by some holistic vets to fast for a day or two often to help cleanse the body.
I would prepare for a stink bomb in the AM. lol
If you feed you cats commercial food, what you gave them was better anyway!!!!!!!

I'm sure it was OK-tip for the future-be on the look out for a sale on canned tuna-I have gotten it for like 19 cents/can and buy a bunch-instant emergency kitty food of a kind you can be sure is safe.

I had a cat that ate everything including the foil on Easter candies one year. If they haven't been sick within the first hour you should be okay. Don't give them dairy tho that doesn't go over well when they get bigger and aren't use to it.

they will be fine, it may be rich for their stomachs, but no harm will come to them..your best bet would have been just to give them the lunch meat, or any leftover meat, say turkey..or chicken, thats much milder on their stomachs..but dont worry..they will be ok..
