The Bible translation used in all United States Catholic Churches is the New American Bible (NAB). Here is the on-line version: http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/

NAB and I guess NRSV. When I went to Catholic school we used the NAB.

Additional Info: Anything with an Imprimatur towards the front is approved by the Roman Catholic Church. The NAB does have one, I just checked. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imprimatur

Ok, this is directly from the pages of the bible that my mother in law gave us for a wedding gift, designed to keep my husband out of Hell for marrying a non catholic person.

The new american bible

Translated from the original Languages with Critical use of all the ancient sources by members of the Catholic biblical association of Amrican

Sponsored by the bishops committee of the confraternity of Christian Doctrine

From the Vatican September 18,1970
1979-80 Edition.

Of course if they have published a new and improved version since this date, I am hopelessly out of touch with their current beliefs.

"Papists"? Sir, you don't need to be insulting. The New American Bible is the official American version, but there are other approved English texts.

They read a special Catholic version. As a catholic 15 years, I was never told or encouraged to own or read a Bible once. Personally I suggest NIV.
