As a teen mom on a very tight budget...I am NOT offended by gift cards!! LOL. I know that some people think they're horribly impersonal but with the cost of diapers, wipes, formula if they're bottlefeeding, and stuff like that I always get excited when I open that card and see the giftcard to Target/Walmart/Kmart. I'd suggest a place like that if you get a giftcard so the money you give them goes as far as possible. Then they can get what they need most at that time or save it till later. Hope this helps you a little! There are also little cheap baby toys at places like that (rattles paccies etc) in case you want to just get the baby a little something.

I agree with the first answer with a giftcard to maybe Wal-Mart, Babies-R-US, something like that. Other than that, if you want it to be personal, crochet a blanket with the baby's name and when they were born and you can include that parent's names on it. It's fairly cheap and doesn't take too long to make.

A gift card may sound "unthoughtful", but really it will help them with anything they really need for the baby if they don't have a lot of money. Good Luck.
