Muscles need about 36 to 48 hours of rest in between to rebuild themselves. You can work every day if you want, just don't work the same muscle without giving a day's rest in between.

For toning you need to work out every other day and on the weekends rest and run this will keep your body regenerated while at rest and ready for your next work out. Also do not do the same body parts every workout.

Will you define "toning" for me?
To me it means shedding the fat to see the muscle underneath.
If you don't need to lose bodyfat, it sounds like you're just trying to "pump" your muscle up.
Mon: Legs (quads, hams, calves)
Tue: Shoulders (deltoids) and Abs
Wed: Back (lats) and Biceps
Thur: Chest (pectorals) and Triceps
Fri: Rest
Also, buy some protein powder and have a shake morning, noon, and night.

3. Any more than that, and you are overworking your muscles. They need time to rest. Do it three times a week, and steadily increase the intensity, and your muscles will be toned in no time.

Every few days is better, you need to give your muscles time to rest.. Or you'll bulk up.
