US allow dual citizenship but i don't know about Brazil.Find out from the Brazilian consulate here in US if it's possible because some countries don't allow. Some Asian and other countries will want their citizens to maintain one citizenship hence if you can't have two citizenships
.But if your son is in the mean time an American and so you will need visa for entry to Brazil.

If your son was born in America, he should have an American passport. If he was born in Brazil, he should have a Brazilian passport.
(I am also an American and my husband was born in Poland, but our son was born in USA and therefore has an American passport)

I would think dual citizenship would be the best thing for your son. That way visiting grandparents (in either country) would not cause him a hassle even if you were not with him.
