I disagree with whoever it was that told you, you were punishing yourself. It could be that you are a night owl, afraid of nightmares, best shows are on late, everyone is asleep at night and you have privacy or too much caffeine. What it comes down to is insomnia, depression, or possibly both.
Either way, you might want to seek help from your doctor if you can't get your schedule turned around. I have two links for you below. I would read up on the Insomnia info first, because it could be something very simple.
Good luck.

right now im doing the same thing i know mine is anger, it consumes me sometimes. i stand start pacing back and forth. i have seen a few doctors for anxiety and panic but they did not help i just had to figure it out on my own. because if u can feel the anger, building up and u can't figure out why it's happening. Some depression medicines work very well for those types of disorders, and no sleep effects your day to day activities.that's enough to drive you crazy. try to stay away from every/any announces for a day or two even the slightest stress relief can do wonders.

i'm alot like that (even when i am tired i will stay awake till like 4 because i don't want to go to sleep). I don't know if this is true for you, but it is true for me and it could be an idea for you. But i've found that i like staying up late because i don't want to have to wake up to another day of pain and such. I try to avoid it by staying up late, especially since i go to school and i do not look forward to going to school and such. Just an idea, maybe you want to avoid the pain of the next day. i really don't think it is repressed anger and that you are punishing yourself, that seems like a real stretch.

You need to sleep. I have no idea how you are functioning but at least you are. I use to work nights and when I didn't get enough sleep I got sick. Your immune system will weaken, cause sleeping disorders, decrease memory, produce more stress and decrease energy flow. Without this death is near. Stop punishing your self, have some hot chocolate and get into bed.
Sweet dreams.

I feel for you and understand completely, I have to constantly check my actions through out the day to make sure that my illness is not trying to hurt me... I have ill say allot of things wrong with me and this is one of the worst parts for me but understand the condition I have and am on meds for it... you should see someone about this...

Did a professional counselor tell you that? If so seeing the counselor on a regular basis might be a good idea.
I do the same thing and I feel for you. It's terrible to know it's best to go to bed, want to go to bed, and not be able to force yourself to go to bed.
If you find an effective treatment for this, please drop me an E-mail and let me know what it is. God bless you.

You need to sleep. You'll feel better and stay healthy. Your body needs to recuperate. It's during sleep that cellular tissues repair themselves.
If it is something that is upsetting to you, find a better way, a healthier, legal way to deal with it.
