no puff pastry is flakey and usually comes in square or rectangular boxes (it could also be home made). Pie crusts are hard and whatever you are making will not come out as intended.
for example, if you have ever had a turn-over, they are very flaky with jelly like filling, that is puff pastry, it would not taste the same with pie crust at all.

Puff pastry is made by folding a dough with butter to create very thin layers of dough, seperated by butter. As it bakes steam causes these layers to puff, resulting in a thick, flaky dough.
Pie dough is made by a process called sablage, where the butter is cut, or rubbed into the flour until you have a sandy texture to the dough. Then it is mixed with egg and rolled out and shaped as needed. This dough is thinner and denser when baked, but should also be flaky.
Phyllo dough is a completely different kind of pastry.

depends on the type of pie crust.. puff pastry is flaky pastry, the same as in croisants.. where the crust flakes up in little layers.. .. What you can do is find canned croisants inthe bisquit section and use that... Here in my country, (we eat that stuff constantly) they sell little packets of puff pastry..
I know some pie crust brands flake up and some are like rock hard and dont.. So it just depends if you are famililar with the pie crust brand or not.

Puff pastry is made of several thin layers of dough to give it that really flakey texture, like a crescent. Pie crust is just one thicker layer of pastry dough.

Puff pastry is also commonly known as philo dough. Any good supermarket will have it in the freezer section. It's basically many many tiny layers of dough 'glued' together with some sort of fat like butter. It will look like a basic sheet of dough to you, but after it cooks up you will be able to see the thin individual layers well.

"puff paste, contains several layers of butter" should tell us something. Pie crust is thicker, but puff paste can contain a 1000 calories - not good if you're on a diet.
