I know we have become a more of a emperorership lately (mostly through Bush) but i hate it when other countries put the US down.

Lets look at some examples of things we've done.

In World War I, Germany still had a chance at winning and probably would have done so eventually if the US had not stepped in. It is said France and Britian (especially because of the naval blockade germany had put on them), were 1 month from defeat.

If that had happened we probably would never have had World War 2 because europe would be speaking german.

World War 2: we pretty much single handedly defeat Japan, and we come to Europescall for help again to stop Hitler. Rather or not britian could have held out forever and turned the tide,,,, who knows.

We won the cold war. Russia self destructed but we helped most of all countries.

And what do we get out of it? people love america so much that they want to destroy us because we have what they cant have.

pittifyull world.. I dont know

Why oh why are you Americans so convinced that you are taught that your country is the savior of all Europe, like the Calvary lets bail out those Europeans again, cant do any thing without our help, WRONG talk about an ego lead society, most of you Americans are from European stock anyway, mainly Italian, Polish, Russian, Irish and other eastern Europeans,up till WW1 your country was isolationist, and still are you only show American news, and snippet of news from the rest of the world, we British and Empire troops including Gurkha's were fighting the Japs long before the bombing of Pearl Harbour. Ok you lost heavily in the Pacific campaigns alot through your own so called friendly fire, in Si pan you were shelling your own Marines, and you fought a good war fair enough, but remember we were fighting from 1939,and for four years the war was still going Hitlers way,so be grateful we won the battle of Britain, so after pearl Harbour you could come and help with our invasion of the then occupied Europe, and use Britain as a jumping of platform, and if we had lost the battle of Britain or Pearl Harbour had not been bombed you Americans would never had come into the war at all, at least until Tojo or Hitler was banging on your door. You and the Russians didn't come into WW2 until 1941 and that's because Hitler invaded Russia, and broke the treaty he had with them. Please read all history books European as well as American.Friendly fire happens in all wars I bow to that, but you guys are better at it than most.

As an American who has spent a *lot* of time overseas, I can tell you that people recognize a lot of *great* things that we've done, and a lot of *crappy* things.

Yes, they acknowledge the things we did in WWI and WWII ... and yes they DO notice that the U.S. is always the first and the biggest to respond with help in cases of natural disaster.

But they also see things like Iraq ... where we support and prop up a brutal dictator like Saddam Hussein for years, look the other way when he gasses his own people, and then *years* later bomb the crap out of the country as a way to "punish" Saddam.

Is it really any wonder we are "misunderstood"? From their point of view we are just baffling ... at one instant capable of tremendous acts of courage and altruism, at the next we are capable of tremendous acts of stupid and *lethal* selfishness.

(And speaking of selfishness, check out your last sentence: "to think about Iraq and Afhganistan, but I just hope it keeps Iran, N. Korea, and China on a leash at least till i die." That right there is the attitude I'm talking about ... as long as they're on a leash until *you* die, you don't care that the rest of the world, or the America that our children inherit, will have to deal with the problems we create today.)

It is also a fallacy that they want to "destroy us" ... this idea that they "hate us because they're jealous" is just 8th-grade logic ... again, what a bunch of self-centered crap. Yes there are some extremists who would love nothing better, but of the vast majority of people in the vast majority of countries, all they want is for us to just LEAVE THEM ALONE and stop messing with their affairs.

It is NOT a pitiful world. It's a wonderful world. You just need to travel more.

Yes I do think the americans are very misunderstood. They have helped many other countries over many centuries & other countries have helped them back in return.

As from a Non American point of view I feel that the majority of your mouths are far bigger than your minds.
2 wrongs don't make a right....
The American politicians are just as bad as Iraqs! The only reason why it's worse is that we can't understand the iraqi's

Oil is now thicker than blood!

This is really not an "America" question, as much as "Why do some people hate other people".

You have hatred everywhere. Most of the Middle East hates Israel. Koreans tend to hate Japanese, and vice-versa. A lot of people in South America hate Argentinians.

Some people simply need somebody else to hate, in order to make themselves feel superior. And even though a lot of people "hate" America, you still have huge numbers of people trying to enter the country for various reasons.

I simply ignore people who base their lives on hate. If somebody is going to spend huge amounts of energy hating, then they have a very pitiful life in my opinion. I would rather be remembered for who and what I love, not who or what I hate.

Although, the America of today is not the old good USA, It has not been in the past and it is not now misunderstood! The masses of today's American citizens who have absolutely no idea what their government is doing behind their backs, are the ones who cannot understand the rest of the world because they have been told to think the way you do!

German naval blockade of Britain and France in W.W.1 is this the history they teach you in America? Sorry to hurt your feelings but like many Americans your factual knowledge of world history is minimal. Try reading some accurate and impartial history, you'll learn a lot.
