I met this guy on a blind date and while we were talking his cell phone goes off and he says, "Hang on a minute" and proceeds to answer the call and starts talking to his friend about sports while I sat there. So I simply got up and left. This is the first time I've ever walked out on a date, and I hated to do it, but I was so insulted! It seemed very disrespectful. If he wasn't interested in me, that's fine, but I think you can at least treat the other person with kindness and respect. Do you think I did the right thing?

Yes, I agree that's down right rude. I think it is disrespectful regardless if it's a first date or a tenth date. If you are out with someone on a date, you shouldn't answer the cell phone unless you are maybe expecting an emergency type call. People overuse their cell phones in public I believe.

Of course you did the right thing!

If a guy has the poor judgement to answer his cell phone during a date, and think thats a good impression, then he's not worth your time.

Relax, you not only did the perfect thing, but I think what you did was hilarious!

Imagine his face when he came back to an empty table!

Of course! There is a difference between excusing yourself for a second to take a call that might be important (job or family related) and then letting the person on the phone know that it isn't a good time and offering to call them back, and then chatting it up with friends while ignoring the person your with. Either way apologizing for the interruption!

Sounds like this person got off lightly with you though, I am surprised they didn't wind up with a drink on their lap!

Much classier though the way you handled it!

Marylou

I think you did the right thing. How rude he was. Most people are on their best behavior, for a good first impression. I'd hate to think what he may have been like later in the relationship.

i think walking out was kind of harsh. When i take a girl out she is the center of my attention. I would never answer a call unless it was extremely important. Seeing it was a blind date, he maybe didnt want to be there or is just stupid

You did the right thing. The only reason to even have your phone with you on a date is if you are on call or there is a family situation (illness, etc.) that would require propmpt attention on his part.

Yeah, you did the right thing. I wish more guys had the balls to do what you did, because girls expect to get away with that kind of behavior all the time.

I think that you were justified. It was rude and disrespectful. I could understand if it was an important phone call.
