Unless you know what you are doing please go to a salon. I can not tell you how many people come in and are crying because they colored their hair and messed it up trying to save a buck. If you can not afford a lot go to a MasterCuts and ask for a stylist who has been doing hair for a little while. They are very cheap but you want to make sure the person is not right out of school. Please tip your stylist. Many of us are paid hourly with a ver hard pay scale to reach. I never make my pay scale and I am very good and fast, but they make it so you literally have to be with a client acery minute you are there. That rarely happens. It is the worst feeling in the world when you are working really hard on someones hair and they stiff you and you know they tip a waoter better. Especially since we all paid to go to school and are only making $8/ hour lol!

Anyways back to the question, if you are confident, go to a place like sally's beauty supply

PS:

I just am editing to say HairDiva is totally right but I must add. If you get ASH blonde, make sure you are not putting it on already light ends or anything or it could turn grey. Ash blonde is meant for hair that is all at least light brown, it will cancel the natural under lying pigment. But if the hair is already lightend past the icky pigments, it will make it grey. She problably did not mention this because to her and I this is common knowledge LOL! Most people do not realise this, I can not tell you how many young girls come in with pretty blonde touched up roots and grey hair!

Ok please for the love of god, do not just buy the bleach @ walmart and slap it on. I think your best bet would be to just go to a moderately priced salon and just get a few highlights around your face. its not going to cost that much and it will lighten you up and look great. ask around sometimes in expensive places do great hair. hey i started at a hair cuttery charging $14 for a haircut now I charge $55, and I learned some of the best things i know from the girls there.

But if you really don't want to spend ANY money, and you refuse to let a professional do it, and you are going to buy a box from the store, just make sure it isn't too far from your natural color and make sure it says ASH on it, like ASH BLONDE, it not you are going to end up with lighter hair and a tint or orange or bright yellow.

GOOD LUCK!!

You get what you pay for: cheap box color have cheap ingredients that don't work as good as the good stuff. Factor in the level of your natural color: specific colors may be needed or bleach, or even a color remover if there is already a gang of box color on your hair. Before you jack up your hair, go to a moderately charging salon. Personally I love the challenge when people come in and their hair is 4 different colors on one strand, and mushy at the bottom. But having your hair "fixed" will cost double if not more in fixing the color plus at home up keep to get it back to normal.
Bottom line: hair in so-so condition+color+not enough practice= spending a lot more money than needed.
It's your hair, one of the first things most people look at and comment on, don't give them amo....Good luck

You can try sun in. It is a product you can buy at Wal-mart and places like that. What you do is put it in your hair, and you can either go outside with it in your hair (not reccomended in the winter) or you can use a hair dryer with it which also works pretty well, but if you are planning on dying your hair in the future, be careful because it is kinda hard to dye over this stuff.

Ok number one dont use bleach unless you want to be bald. Unless they are talking about the bleach that hairstylist use then its not bad. Anyway you should just go to walmart or a store similar to that and like that girl said pick out a shad of blonde and go with it. Thats what i use on my hair all the time.
They work just as good as if you went and had it professionaly done.

Go buy some bleach (hair bleach, not clothes) and those are usually pretty cheap. And I know how you feel because my hair is really light in the summer and almost dark brown in the winter. It's because your hair gets sun-bleached.
