Many still do!

Libraries won't go away, yet with the digital revolution they are evolving. Librarians were on the internet sharing and researching before the web (and its graphical user interface existed).

We have cluttered our schedules -- and our family's schedule -- and we don't think we have time, so we use Google instead. Many people don't know that they can save time by using a library and its resources: print and digital. Many libraries provide access to great online databases (with qualified sources). People save time using them, and appropriate print materials, 'cause they're not wasting time wading through much unqualified material on the web.

The average library user may not know how many people are using the local library, because they can't all be seen in the library. Many people log in from home, or call in to renew books now.

Sadly, another reason people may not be using libraries as much is because of funding. Let's not talk politics here, but know that it is our responsibility to notify our state and federal representatives and tell them that library service improves the quality of life of individuals and small businesses. I know I really miss the library in our town. It's closed on Sundays now. That's a shame.

In the podunk town where I went to elementary school, they didn't teach how to use a library. The books on the shelves at the school were from the early 1900's. When I got to high school in the bigger town, I figured out how to use the Dewey Decimal System. But everyone else in my family was too scared to try because they were afraid someone would find out they didn't know. They didn't let me show them because they thought I was showing off.

If schools would teach how to use the library, more people would do it. When I go to the library, it's packed all right - with kids and unemployed people chatting on the internet.

I go to the library once a week and it is always packed so I am not sure where you are getting that no one uses the library system anymore.

because there is tons of free information at their fingertips with the internet. It may not always be correct/accurate, but it can be accesed quickly.

Its a shame.

There is still a fair amount of people who go to libraries, but more and more people are turning to the internet.

Well if your talking about books, you can read a summary of a book in 5 minutes or read the entire thing in 5 days.

You may not have enough time.

You can pretty much educate yourself on the internet at conveinence.

Or if you are like me you hate reading causing it is extrodinarily boring.

I think it's as simple as : People don't know how to use the library.
Very unfortunate but true.
