You need to monitor their activity from 5 years until 18 yrs and longer if they still live in your home and use your computer. You dont want any legal issues cropping up.
Do not let your child have a computer in their room and keep it where you can see it at all times. Buy programs that do not allow access to certain sites not appropriate for kids and teens.
You need to get on the net and figure out what your kids and use and what is off limits. Many young kids get on Myspace and I think is is just trouble and very addicting. Any site that draws kids is also drawing pedophiles and molesters. They act like they are a kid or teen and try to get private information from kids. Tell your kids when they are very young to never give out real name, phone number, address or email address to people they do not know on the net. These molesters can show up at your door. Why? They ask if you need a handyman, lawn cut, or sitter. They try to get their foot in to prey on your kids. They are especially drawn to kids they talk to on the internet.
There is **** sites, drug sites, gang sites, communist sites, cults, terrorist sites, and horrific terror sites (heads blown off, guns blowing people up and more). You dont want your kids on any of these so keep a good eye on what they get on. Tell them exactly what they are allowed to do and that is it.
Keep them Safe.

Until they are no longer children! This would mean they have proven to you that they can be responsible and probably near the end of their high school career. Personally, too much freedom will allow them to go to far, while too little makes them curious about what is so bad about the net. Communicate with your kids your concerns about their security, just don't make it sound like if they dare log into myspace, they will be molested. There are norms that if you think it through will protect you even on such a notorious website.

I would start monitoring around age 9. My daughter found out from children at school that she could look up breasts and other adult matter on the internet. I didn't think to monitor it until I saw what she had looked up in the drop down box of the search engine. Always check the history of your computer and password protect your computer.

i imagine that it relies upon on the adulthood element of the youngster. in the adventure that they comprehend the floor guidelines comprehend the thanks to be secure and by no ability too placed out certain information which could get them into worry then they should be high quality. i don't think that monitoring is the answer it purely isn't a reliable idea it shows that you have not any form of believe for them. Do you visual reveal unit your youngster's telephone conversations besides such as her acquaintances? i believe that once you're giving the youngster internet get perfect of entry to with im, operating a blog, and so on......should be around the age that you're feeling is impressive for them, the position you comprehend you do not might want to visual reveal unit their interest. otherwise what's the point? in case you won't be able to believe them it doesn't make any experience to provide them that. It is going with idea purely because somebody else has does no longer advise that your baby must have it! i do not believe each person on right here who say you're lower than my roof, using my computing device, i will visual reveal unit your interest, and it doesn't remember what age! i imagine that's totally bogus who has adequate time contained in the day contained in the first position? Secondly why do not you purely come out and tell your baby i don't think you I by no ability will no remember what age you're being watched. unhappy truly. i have by no ability had my internet monitored even as i became youthful yet I knew what i might want to share and that i could not share. again that's all about adulthood element, respect, and believe you've on your baby.

From the time they can get on the net to the time that they are out of your home. Always communicate to your child the rules about the computer and surfing the web, and what sites are OK to go on to. Don't have the computer in a room that can not be watched while they are on it. And always remind them that the computer is a privilege and it can be taken away. This can be a very useful tool for your children and also a very dangerous tool for predators. You have to protect your children.

I monitor my children's activity all of the time. My children are currently 9,7 and 4 and although I do not believe that they would purposely access something inappropriate you can never be too careful. I have tried accessing sites in the past and ended up being sent to sites that were not appropriate. I also do not want to take the chance that someone will try contacting my children.

Well, I'm someone who wasn't allowed to even HAVE the internet at home until I was 19 and had graduated high school lol
But I think any age up to 18, should be monitored while on the internet, for their safety.

If they are minors then the parents should monitor their net activity. Once they go to college, they are on they're own.

From the time that they are old enough to go online. They should never be able to be online alone. Too may perverts out there just dying to find them. I wouldn't stop monitoring my kids online activity until they are 18.
