I was at lunch the other day with my husband whom was not at the table, my daughter was crying she is having a terrible time with teething and i was trying everything to get her to stop crying , i did give her some motrin for the teeth but takes awhile to kick in, should have done that before we went to lunch, but she was fine before sleeping she is about 14 months old. anyway my Mother-in-law beds over and says to me SHe is Spoiled!! and I just looked at her, I could not believe that she said that.. geez i said you think so ?? she said why don't you think she is?? I said ya know maybe a little not a lot.. my husband walked over to see what he could do he was with my other 2 kids.. and I looked at him and said loudly well, no she is spoiled.. he said WHAT? and I said yeah she is spoiled and then his Mom leaned over and said I was mad at ther for sying that.. i wasn't happy.. my husband said she is not spoiled her teeth are hurting her and she is not usually like this when we go out..

first of all your child is not spoiled...i have 3 of my own...its called teething...obviously ur mother in law forgot how it was.... fyi have u tried rubbing whisky on babies mouth..it numbs it...ok back to m-i-l...let ur husband deal with her...he sticks up for u and the kids right? anyways u can tell her it's her opinion on what she thinks about her grandchildren, BUT not her buisness...they r ur kidsnot hers....if opinion outburst keep happening tell her if she continues to make comments that r not needed or any of her buisness, then she cannot come around the kids if drama is what she wants to cause...only telling u from personnal experience...my m-i-l doesnt come around or has seen our kids in about 4 yrs....ssoooooooo....good luck...stay strong ok

Dear mom,
Unless you live with your mother-in-law ignore her. What do you really care if she thinks your daughter is spoiled anyway? She was probably upset at having to listen to the crying especially in a restaurant. Don't forget she has a whole different set of ideas about what is and isn't correct behavior when out in public that she learned from her parents. Don't fret about it.

Spoiled because you gave her Motrin for pain? They say it's a good thing you can't remember teething because it's so painful, it'd knock out adults. Give me a break! You can't really spoil a 14 month old. You can tell them no (like, no, don't touch that hot lamp) but they don't understand timeouts and such-- just smile sweetly at your MIL and say, "Thanks." and then go back to what you were doing. And next time maybe she won't get invited to lunch.

Sounds like something my mother in law would say...what a *****!!!
I'd like to know HER definition of spoiled. I have twins that have teething problems and they scream constantly-I have to give them Motrin. If she would have said that to me, I would have told her to go to hell!! LOL
It's a good thing your husband spoke up and said something. MINE wouldn't.

. well some baby are spoiled to and they could be in so much pain when they are cutting teeth. you should have told her that your child hurts just like adults do when they have a tooth ache.

I WOULD TELL HER THAT MY CHILD IS HAVING A TERRIBLE PROBLEM WITH HER TEETHING AND IF YOU CONSIDER THAT AS BEING SPOILED I KNOW DON'T WHAT TO CALL THAT ANY MORE. YOUR HUSBAND IS RIGHT, IN ANSWERING HER BACK YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE IT. WHY ARE YOU SCARED OF YOUR MOTHER IN -LAW.IT IS MY CHILD AND I CAN AND I CAN RAISE THEM ACCORDING TO WHAT I WANT.

Never mind. At least your husband knows she said it and answered calmly. Now, when the husband says....oh, mum doesnt mean anything by it..... oh you are taking it the wrong way....etc. THEN you have a lifetime of agony ahead!

I would tell her it is none of her business that she is your child and even if she is spoiled it is your choice not hers .
