Contrary to most of the comments above you don't have to join the military to become an airline pilot. You do however need a four year degree. You have a good start if you are already working on your private pilots license. I would suggest that you look into attending a college or university that has aviation as a major. There are many out there Embry-Riddle, University of North Dakota, and Daniel Webster College are just a few. You can also look into attending a school like Bridgewater State College in Ma which is affiliated with Delta Connection Academy. If you attend there they will take you from your Private Pilots License right to your first interview with a commuter airline.
Just know that it is a lot of work to fly for the airlines, but it is worth it in the end. I have many friends that are doing just that right now and are loving every minute of it.

Commercial pilots are a whole different ballgame from private pilots.
Although there are a few schools for the commercial pilots, you will need a lot of hours for a commercial license, which is veryyyyyy expensive.
Most airlines hire military pilots because they know they have had the best training, are very disciplined and have done lots of flight hours. To be a military pilot, you must be an officer (college graduate) then apply for flight school
For civilian schools, check the yellow pages of major urban areas under, flight instruction..
