Exactly the opposite, actually. The atheist believes only in what can be proven, not anything that relies on "faith", and therefore is more likely to be open-minded about issues rather than relying on what someone else has told him/her to think. You have obviously never had a true conversation with an atheist, and believe that, just because he does profess a belief in a Higher Power that he/she must be "evil" in some way. Let me say this...There is never been a war fought or a single person harmed in any way because someone or someones believed there was no God. But there has been a lot of wars and harm done to human beings by other human beings to DO believe in a Higher Power...
Think about it.

"The fool has said in his heart 'there is no God' ".(Psalm14:1). The Psalm goes on to describe the moral character of the one who makes such an assertion and it is not a very flattering picture. I think one might be agnostic with some degree of honesty, but an atheist is affirming his certainty of that which cannot be certainly affirmed, and is therefore an essentially dishonest person. The underlying motive is selfishness. If you are purposed to live an essentially selfish life, God is a great inconvenience and a positive nuisance!

No. You're doing that now.
When you become an atheist, you get to finally open your eyes and look around to find the truth. It's a lifelong goal.

Absolutely not. If you become an athiest, you are opening your eyes to the truth. Think about how ridiculous most religion sound...they could very well be replaced with stories from Brothers Grim. You can be open minded and reasonable, let others believe what they want, and you believe what you want.

Wrong.
To be an atheist, you also need a belief system and great faith to believe that there is no God.
You are quite wrong to say the atheist 'close their eyes to the truth'.
To them, the truth is that there is no God and all who believe in a god of any sort are mad, lame and weak.

Nope. That puts 'becoming' on as a second thought/action/whatever. I was born and raised one, was not anything to 'become,' and mind is very open to truths and logics of this world.

You don't "become" anything. Ask yourself what you believe in. Do you think its likely that God created the Earth and Heaven and Eve first sinned ect... or do you think intelligently and ask questions. You can believe in God and still ask questions, you can be Atheist and still ask questions but you cannot be a Christian and ask questions. How do you feel about that?
