Friend - Simple answer: Ask your doctor who prescribed it. Only your doctor, who knows your health situation and why you are on luvox can know the best time. Medicines work differently for all of us and our reactions to them vary widely. GBYou

The manufactures recommend: if the decision has been made to discontinue treatment, medication should be tapered, as rapidly as is feasible, but with recognition that abrupt discontinuation can be associated with certain symptoms. To view a list of these symptom, please copy and paste the following link to RxList: http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/fluvox_wcp.htm#P

Nevertheless, I recommend that you consult with your Physician since you want to discontinue Luvox. Although in clinical trials, these events (symptoms) are generally self-limiting, there have been reports of serious discontinuation symptoms.

Because of these serious symptoms, patient are required to be monitored for these symptoms when discontinuing treatment with fluvoxamine maleate (Luvox) tablets. To avoid these symptoms, a gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible.

For instructions on how to gradually reduce your dose, see RxList's section Discontinuation of Treatment with Fluvoxamine Maleate Tablets. That link is: http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/fluvox_ids.htm#D

The Physician is instructed: If intolerable symptoms occur following a decrease in the dose or upon discontinuation of treatment, then resuming the previously prescribed dose may be considered. Subsequently, the physician may continue decreasing the dose but at a more gradual rate.

Even if you are taking this medication without a prescription, still consult with a Physician. This will help in the case of spontaneous adverse events occurring upon discontinuation of these drugs, particularly when abrupt.

Hope this answers your question!
