Maryland is not among the 11 states that have state laws that specifically ban online gambling (inlcuding online poker). You may be interested to know that the 11 states are IL, IN, LA, MI, NJ, NV, NY, OR, SD, WA, WI. You may also be interested to know that I have never heard of any person that did gamble online in those states being prosecuted under their respective state laws that ban online gambling.
Contrary to popular belief, the recently-signed Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 did nothing to modify, curtail, or extend states' laws in this area. However, in response to the UIGEA, about 1/3 of all online gambling sites have stopped taking players from the United States, while other online gambling sites have stopped taking players from the 11 states listed above (but continue to accept players from the other 39 states).
The Online Casino Gambling Directory lists over 550 online gambling sites along with their policy with regard to US players; it also lists each site's free, no-deposit bonuses and initial-deposit bonuses as well. For example, here are lists of online poker sites at The Online Casino Gambling Directory; click the link that applies to your place of residence:
US players that reside in any of IL, IN, LA, MI, NJ, NV, NY, OR, SD, WA, WI: http://theonlinecasinogamblingdirectory.com/s.php?as_usa=1&SRC=YahooAnswers&t=Poker
US players from all other states have a few more choices available: http://theonlinecasinogamblingdirectory.com/s.php?as_usa=2&SRC=YahooAnswers&t=Poker
Non-US players have the most choices: http://theonlinecasinogamblingdirectory.com/s.php?&SRC=YahooAnswers&t=Poker
If you are looking for recommendations, I recommend three sites in particular for their nice bonuses, great game selection, and excellent sit-and-go tournaments at all stakes. As of this writing, all of these sites take players from any state in the US (as well as all non-US players, of course), and have a 100% initial deposit bonus for new players.

YES, YES...........and YES. You can play poker online for real money. I play poker for a living, and play online on several site every day, and even with the "new law" sign by bush, it doesn't touch players only a few site, but many others still open.
Many people misunderstand the law about poker online.
You can sign to: fulltilt poker, bodog, doyle'room, absolute poker, ultimet bet....and more.

Playing poker is not illegal anywhere, playing poker for money may or may not be. If you're just playing for fun and not real money then its legal anywhere.

It is illegal to gamble online in all fifty states. If you are playing poker without gambling, that is ok (but then what's the point?). Go to Atlantic City and try playing there.
