and what do you think of that? The woman Bishops and the openly gay clergy living with the boyfriend and stuff like that. There is a tremendous push for that in the Catholic Church as well but, they are standing pat. I for one am glad.

individual Catholics may do a number of things but it is not sanctioned by the Church. The type of liberalism that I am talking about is where there is more emphasis put on the Church being the Body of Christ therefore we, being in effect God (they have thrown out the notion of the Church being his bride) can do whatever the heck we want despite what the gospel says because if someone does not like it we will just change the wording and it will be allright.

a priest takes the role of Jesus at the Last Supper, so a woman cannot be Jesus.

Yes, Midge. there is and we have to stop it. Especially us Catholics. We can't just change the whole doctrine of the church just for "Tolerance" and "Appeasement" . We need to keep our church whole and traditional. The Catholic church has been pretty black and white in the past, now some of it is becoming gray. I hardly hear much in my church anymore about pro-life issues. Only the small groups do anything about it, but it is no longer preached. What's happening here? Can't be a liberal Catholic!
God Bless and Merry Christmas to you!

I agree. There are different kinds of "liberalism" though. In the past I was much more "legalistic" and conservative than I am now. In the last few years I've been developing into a person who is less quick to judge, and more open on questions that are not clearly defined in the Scriptures.
However, the idea of openly gay clergy living with a mate of the same sex...
In the denomination I am with, practicing homosexuality is condemned, and would be disciplined even in the membership. (A person with homosexual tendencies who did not want to practice it would receive compassion, help, and counselling, as well as respect).
We do not have woman pastors, although women do have important places of leadership in the churches. It is a question that has been debated recently.
I am a little softer on that: My stance is: "No, if we are going to follow the Bible, then for some reason, women are welcome to every ministry except being pastors (elders or bishops according to Acts 20 - same ministry)." I don't know why they can't, but they can't. And it is not because they are not equal to men.
Some say it is simply a cultural injunction. I have visited churches (in other denominations) where women were pastors, and they were doing good work. They sincerely believed it was an injunction in the New Testament strictly because of cultural elements which no longer applied. I am not convinced by their argument, but I respect them.

The word liberal has come to mean something bad.

What it really means is taking each individual and situation into account.....not lumping people together and putting one tag on all of them.

Maybe what's happening is each family has a gay person, or a pregnant teen, etc.

Don't be too quick in taking the Catholic Church out of the mix. Catholics for generations have been making up their own minds about things....such as birth control. 80% of Catholics use birth control in the United States or did you think all Catholics only have 2.5 children. Think about it.

Considering that Jesus was a liberal with socialist leanings. He fought against the self-righteous, people that would use holy places as markets and opened his arms to the most marginalized sections of society, I would say that liberalism has been there since the start.

I think every culture, religion, and groups of all types should have both ends of the spectrum. It gives a broader view of things, therefore can create outcomes that everyone is satisfied with.

What's wrong with female priests and bishops? The female priest we had was fantastic. Why don't you think women can minister as well as men? I try to see things as Jesus would. I do believe He accepted everyone.

Be sure, the devil is having his way in many of the mainstream denominations. It is sin to have women pastors, or gay pastors or anyone who is openly living in sin.

The catholics have far worse problems then all the above, they teach a way to heaven that leads to hell. Their doctrince is full of error and has been for many years.

These are challenging days for the REAL Christians who just want a good Bible based church.

Jesus was the first liberal. If you follow his teachings you can't help but be one too.

Sounds like you are doing some judging of Gays here. Jesus said judge not.
