Currently I have a chocolate brown wall that I need to get back to that wonderful bland white. I'm assuming i'll need to prime it then paint it white. Does anybody know which primer is best for this so I'm not doing multiple coats?

Most latex interior wall primers will work well. I prefer Glidden or Sherwin Williams, but I think any brand will have a similar product. Make sure the wall is dry before priming and wait 6 to 8 hours at least before painting.

If you want a better primer, as in one that will adhere better, go with the stain blocking primers - they have more odor though.

If you are changing a dark brown wall to white, I think you will still need a coat of primer and two coats of paint.

Kilz primer... It covers any type of stain or color of paint.

There are two types of Kilz

Kilz Original covers ANYTHING but has a very very strong odor and you will need lots of ventilation!

Kilz-2 covers most anything but may require 2 coats but the big advantage is it doesn't have a strong odor...

Good Luck!

Your best bet is "original kilz". Sure it stinks a bit, but it will cover great in 1 coat and it's white like rice, so it would give you a good base for your white wallpaint.
