A shank mark means a scar from being stabbed.... ;)

hm..well i think that the term shank comes from the term used for weapons made by prison inmates. they fasten various materials and shape them into practically whatever form of weapon they want - usually something sharp used to stab. so if you get stabbed in jail you would have gotten "shanked". so..maybe your dad was just saying your sores looked as though you might have gotten shanked; in a fight or something (are your sores that bad?). i don't know how serious he was, but hey, maybe that's what he meant. of course, this could be completely out of my ***, considering my brother and i joke with the term sometimes.
