This puppy should see a veterinarian. He probably has fleas, even though you think they aren't there, they always are. DO NOT apply an inexpensive flea treatment, and DO NOT bathe this puppy in flea shampoo. You need to use Advantage or Frontline, ONLY. This puppy is sick and cheap flea stuff is toxic and does not work well at all.

Your puppy also needs a skin scraping performed at the veterinary hospital. This is a test that lets us see if your puppy also has skin mites. You WILL NOT be able to rid your puppy of skin mites with anything at the store, please do not try. Your vet will prescribe appropriate treatment if they find that he does have skin mites. Skin mites are very itchy and can cause the symptoms you are describing.

Your puppy may also require some vaccinations, you should see your veterinarian so that you can get this puppy back on track, and keep him from becoming sick with something else.

Some breeds are prone to certain skin irritations anyways. If the irritation is to the point of uncontrollable bleeding and scratching then you should take it to the vet. I have a german shepard mix and she routinely has skin problems, in the past the vet has given me a dog safe dosage of benedryl (about 1/2 tab for large dogs and 1/4 or 1/16 tab for med and small dogs) to control the dogs comfort and aveeno oatmeal bath for people combined with vertrinary antibiotics and hot spot ointment or after bath lotion should take care of it. Once the irritation is controlled and you puppy is feeling better remember zinc base cremes such as desitin or ad ointment will work to help the fur grow back the proper color and promote quick healing.

You need to see a vet. Puppy may have fleas, or he could have mange. Also puppy should be checked for worms so when you go bring a stool sample. That has nothing to do with the itching an hair loss problem but the pup should be checked out and get his shots and stuff.

well give him a flea wash and get a moisturizing shampoo then get him a vet appointment he probably has an allergy it could be to food or flea's the Dr. may suggest you give him benedryl but make sure when you get the dosage you write it somewhere so you don't forget....there is this bottle of yellow liquid we use on i think its simply called hot spots if you need more help call a pet supplies store they may be able to assist you better....but my first suggestion is take the wee little guy to the vet he will love you more for it....

My dog had skin allergies from Iams so I had to try Science Diet, etc. and finally got it right with Natural Choice. Corn is one of the most common cause of allergies from diet. Try something that uses rice. A vet can also help narrowing the allergens with lab tests. It could be his shampoo, your detergetnt, etc. Good luck.

I would call the vet, he may have poison ivy or some sort of allergic reaction to something. I don't know if you can put aloe on a dog...but that helps with the itch and pain of a sunburn. Good Luck!

Oh, poor baby. Bless your heart for saving him and giving him another chance.

I hate to tell you, but I agree with the others. You need to take him to a vet. The poor thing could anything from a simple food allergy to mange. Aside from that, he needs to be checked for worms and will need his first set of vaccines.

Good luck. He was so lucky that you found him.

I would take him to the vet, you don't know if puppy need shots or has a disease. The first thing you should do is go to vet he can properly diagnose and treat what is wrong with the puppy.
